Job description

Description Do you like being a part of a team environment and enjoy ice skating. Engaging with adults and children alike. Montgomery County Parks, Enterprise Division, is currently seeking energetic, fun, and dependable seasonal/intermittent applicants to fill our exciting positions at our year-round facilities either Wheaton Ice Arena or Cabin John Ice Rink.

OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE: Ice Skate Guard(Starting @ $15.45/hr) Skate guards are responsible for the overall safety and supervision of public skating sessions. Duties include: Enforcing rules during public skating sessions for patron's safety and enjoyment, checking wristbands, and enforcing building safety procedures, Providing customer service to patrons by answering questions, handing out rental skates, and giving directions during public skating sessions

Providing basic first aid to injured patrons. Performing routine cleaning tasks like sweeping, emptying trash, and mopping. Should be outgoing, teamwork oriented, flexible, and have excellent customer service skills.

Additional on-site training will be provided. Pay rate is based on experience and qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: Must be proficient at skating and able to skate for extended period (should not exceed 2 hours).

Minimum age: 16 Ice Skating Instructional Assistant(Starting @ $15.45/hr.) Instructional Assistants support our ice skating coaches to provide high quality instruction during our group lesson skating programs, with the aim to improve student success and enthusiasm. Duties include: Assisting the instructors on and off the ice with group classes. This includes assisting with putting on skates, answering questions, getting instructor additional toys or equipment needed for class

Aid skaters who may have additional needs. Provides encouragement to skaters and demonstrates skills as directed by the instructor. Should have knowledge of the ice-skating instructional program levels and curriculum.

Must be available to work during scheduled group lesson times after school and on weekends. Should be enthusiastic, punctual, patient, a good communicator, and a team player. Additional on-site training will be provided.

Pay rate is based on experience and qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: Must be proficient at skating through the Free Skate 4 or Hockey advanced level and should be able to skate for an extended period (should not exceed 2 hours). Minimum age: 16 Ice Rink Freestyle Monitor(Starting @ $15.00/hr.) Freestyle monitors provide support to our skaters and coaches during the figure skating freestyle sessions

Duties include: Taking attendance for the freestyle session ensuring skaters have paid. Maintaining organization of the monitors' box including skaters' music and freestyle belts. Playing skaters' music in accordance with freestyle protocols and procedures.

Understanding and enforcing the facility's freestyle etiquette and educate others when necessary. Encouraging a positive atmosphere amongst skaters and coaches. Communicating any issues to rink management.

Knowledge of figure skating is preferred. Must be available to work during scheduled session times before and after school and on weekends. Should be enthusiastic, punctual, patient, a good communicator, and a team player.

Additional on-site training will be provided. Pay rate is based on experience and qualifications. Minimum Qualifications: Some knowledge of freestyle session management is preferred.

Must be able to work in a cold environment for a for an extended period (should not exceed 2 hours). Minimum age: 16 Ice Rink Snack Bar Attendant/Cashier(Starting @ $15.00/hr.) Snack bar attendants prepare and sell food items from the concession stand. Duties include: Preparing snack items for sale

Will operate, monitor, and clean food service-related equipment. Operating the POS system for the snack bar, collecting all fees, and answering customer questions or concerns. Must follow all food safety and security procedures involving cash and inventory.

Cleaning and sanitizing all equipment including the kitchen and common areas. Must be comfortable performing basic computer functions including using a POS system. Must have strong customer service skills, be able to communicate clearly, be able to stand for periods of time, and be available to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Cash handling experience is preferred. Additional on-site training will be provided. Pay rate based on experience and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications: Some weekend and evening hour shifts are required. Minimum age of 16. Ice Rink Pro Shop/Customer Service Representative(Starting @ $15.00/hr.) Pro Shop attendants are responsible for the retail pro shop operations and skate services

Duties include: Assist customers with sales of skating related merchandise. This includes fitting skates (figure and hockey), hockey equipment, and skating accessories. Maintain cleanliness of the pro shop including sales floor, machines, and restocking inventory.

Accurately perform cashier duties following the commission policies and procedures. Answer customer questions about skates and equipment. Sharpen skates and perform other skate services (after training).

Perform basic computer functions including using a POS system, a registration system, and basic office applications. Must have strong customer service skills, be able to communicate clearly, be able to stand for periods of time, and be available to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge of skates and skating equipment if preferred.

Cash handling experience is preferred. Additional on-site training will be provided. Pay rate based on experience and qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of skating equipment is preferred. Some weekend and evening hour shifts are required. Minimum age of 16.

Custodian(Starting @ $15.00/hr) Maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of all public areas, locker rooms, restrooms, lobby, offices, and outside the facility area. Report building issues to management when necessary. Keep accurate inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment

Minimum Qualifications: Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, or reaching, repetitive lifting of objects up to 49 pounds. Work hours include weekday and weekend night shifts. Minimum age of 18.

Pay rates are based on experience and qualifications. All selected candidates must display excellent customer service skills. Some positions attain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (training classes available) and attend in-house orientation.
