Ice Skating Instructor Job Description

JOB TITLE: Ice Skating Instructor

Job Summary: The Ice Skating Instructor will be responsible for teaching recreational Ice Skating classes to students of all levels with safety and technique as the primary focus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Teach all ages of participants in the program from age 3-18 years old
  • Check-in students and take attendance for scheduled classes
  • Choreograph performance group routines for shows or exhibitions upon request
  • Monitor safety of rink equipment, ice conditions, and facility
  • Follow class curriculum as provided by supervisor
  • Maintain class management and use class time wisely
  • Evaluate participants skill acquisition and recommend advancement when necessary to the Figure Skating Supervisor
  • Convey information about Ice Skating programs to the public
  • Develop positive relationships with participants and patrons
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Work collaboratively with other staff as needed
  • Be a positive role model for students
  • Responsible for providing motivational support and guidance to participants
  • Actively support the agencys risk management protocol that will effectively control and reduce accidents
  • Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices or conditions to the immediate supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs

Required Skills/Abilities (Technology, Mathematical, Language):

  • Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Preference will be given to those with previous coaching experience

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including standing, bending, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and lifting
  • Exposure to cleaning and disinfecting supplies
  • Exposure to noise and cold temperature

Required Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

  • CPR, First Aid and AED within three (3) months of employment
  • USA Ice Skating SafeSport Certified within one (1) month of employment
