Job Title: CNC MachinistJob Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to produce a wide variety of high-precision aerospace and industrial shaft seals and piston rings. You will work with multiple metals, including titanium and 410 stainless steel, to mill, turn, and bore parts according to detailed specifications. The position requires working from oral and written instructions, blueprints, sketches, and process sheets, and using precision measuring instruments to ensure parts meet exacting quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to produce aerospace and industrial shaft seals and piston rings.
  • Work with a variety of metals, primarily titanium and 410 stainless steel, to mill, turn, and bore precision components.
  • Interpret and follow oral and written instructions, blueprints, sketches, and process sheets to complete machining operations accurately.
  • Perform CNC machine setup, including changeouts, tooling changes, and offsets, to prepare equipment for production runs.
  • Make conversational edits and adjustments to CNC programs at the machine as needed to optimize part quality and efficiency.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and other gauges to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Monitor machines during operation and make adjustments to tooling, feeds, and speeds to maintain quality and productivity.
  • Support the production of high-precision components used in aerospace, commercial aviation, and oil and gas applications, including shaft seals, piston rings, and turbine seals.
  • Collaborate with team members on all shifts to troubleshoot machining issues and continuously improve processes.
  • Follow all safety, quality, and shop floor procedures, including facility rules regarding equipment use and production-floor conduct.
Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of CNC machining experience, including setup and operation.
  • Hands-on experience with CNC setup, operation, changeouts, tooling changes, and offsets.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and process sheets.
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
  • CNC programming experience, including conversational edits at the machine.
  • Experience with CMM (coordinate measuring machine) for inspection and measurement.
  • Background in 5-axis CNC machining operations.
  • Experience working with metals such as titanium and 410 stainless steel.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with DMG CNC equipment.
  • Experience with Doosan CNC lathes and grinders.
  • Familiarity with machining high-precision components for aerospace, commercial aviation, and oil and gas applications.
  • Comfort working in a unionized, high-precision manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

This position operates in a modern, extremely well-lit, clean, and climate-controlled manufacturing facility. The role is available on 2nd shift (Monday–Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (Monday–Friday, 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with a Sunday night start-up). Initial training takes place on 1st shift for approximately 1.5 months before transitioning to the permanent shift, with continued training alongside shift teammates. The facility is a union environment, and all hourly employees are part of the United Steelworkers Union (USW), with union dues consisting of a small initiation fee and a percentage of wages plus a minimal hourly amount. The operation focuses on producing high-precision components—primarily seals and rings—for aerospace, commercial aviation, and oil and gas applications, including shaft seals for centrifugal compressors, piston rings for diesel and locomotive uses, and turbine seals for aircraft. No cell phones are allowed on the production floor, supporting safety, focus, and productivity.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $61318.40 - $61318.40/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
