What is a site support technician?

Site Support Technicians are IT professionals responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for computer systems, networks, and related equipment at a specific location or site. They troubleshoot hardware and software issues, install and configure equipment, and assist users with technical problems. Their goal is to ensure that all technology on-site operates smoothly, minimizing downtime and disruptions for staff. Site Support Technicians may also handle system upgrades, security updates, and coordinate with other IT teams for complex issues.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a site support technician?

To thrive as a Site Support Technician, you need strong knowledge of computer hardware and software troubleshooting, basic networking, and often an associate degree or relevant certifications like CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST). Familiarity with ticketing systems, remote support tools, and enterprise platforms such as Windows, Active Directory, and Office 365 is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and customer service orientation help you effectively address user issues and collaborate with IT teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring smooth technology operations, minimizing downtime, and maintaining user productivity at the site.

What are some common challenges faced by site support technicians, and how can they be addressed?

Site Support Technicians often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting unforeseen hardware or network issues, managing multiple service requests simultaneously, and communicating technical solutions to non-technical staff. To address these, strong problem-solving skills, effective time management, and clear communication are essential. Building a solid understanding of the organization's IT infrastructure and regularly updating technical skills can also help technicians respond more efficiently and minimize downtime.

Job description

Construction Site Support Technician

TrueHeritage Staffing is seeking a dependable and hands-on Construction Site Support Technician to assist with general site support on a large-scale outdoor construction project.

This position is ideal for someone with general construction, maintenance, handyman, facilities, or jobsite experience who is comfortable working independently, walking extensively throughout a large active construction site, and keeping important temporary safety equipment properly maintained and in place.

This is not a finish or trim carpentry position. We are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, observant, reliable, and comfortable performing a variety of hands-on tasks throughout the jobsite.

Responsibilities

  • Walk buildings and designated areas throughout the construction site to perform routine checks
  • Install, maintain, reposition, and replace temporary exit signage as construction progresses
  • Check fire extinguishers throughout the site to ensure they are present, accessible, properly positioned, and in good condition
  • Assist with checking and maintaining onsite cameras and related equipment
  • Identify missing, damaged, or improperly positioned safety equipment and report concerns
  • Perform minor repairs, adjustments, mounting, and general hands-on site tasks as needed
  • Use basic hand and power tools safely
  • Keep track of assigned areas and ensure routine site checks are completed
  • Communicate issues or safety concerns promptly to supervisors
  • Follow all construction-site safety procedures and requirements
  • Assist the team with additional general site-support duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Previous construction, maintenance, facilities, handyman, general labor, or similar hands-on experience preferred
  • Comfortable using basic hand and power tools
  • Mechanically inclined with good problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to notice when something is missing, damaged, or out of place
  • Dependable and able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Comfortable working on an active construction site
  • Able to walk and remain on your feet for extended periods
  • Comfortable working outdoors in Florida heat and changing weather conditions
  • Able to lift, carry, and reposition equipment and materials as needed
  • Safety-conscious and willing to follow established jobsite procedures

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate does not necessarily need to be a carpenter. We are looking for a reliable, semi-skilled, hands-on individual who understands construction environments, takes ownership of assigned areas, pays attention to details, and can be trusted to consistently complete routine site checks and maintenance tasks.
