What is a site reliability engineer II?

Site Reliability Engineers II (SRE II) are IT professionals who focus on ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of software systems. They build and manage infrastructure, automate operational tasks, and respond to incidents to minimize downtime. SRE IIs typically have a few years of experience and handle more complex engineering problems than entry-level SREs. They collaborate with development and operations teams to improve system reliability through code, monitoring, and process improvements.

What are some common challenges faced by a site reliability engineer II and how can they be addressed?

As a Site Reliability Engineer II, you may encounter challenges such as managing complex system architectures, balancing rapid deployments with system stability, and responding to incidents efficiently. Addressing these challenges often involves collaborating closely with development and operations teams, utilizing automation tools for monitoring and deployment, and participating in post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement. Proactively documenting processes and sharing knowledge within the team also plays a key role in overcoming these hurdles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a site reliability engineer II, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Site Reliability Engineer II, you need a solid background in software engineering, systems administration, and incident management, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (like Terraform or Ansible), cloud platforms (such as AWS, GCP, or Azure), and monitoring systems is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and collaboration skills set top performers apart in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring system reliability, scalability, and seamless cross-functional operations in dynamic technical environments.

Job description

.NET Software Engineer / SRE II DETAILS Location: Location: Arlington, TX 76014 (hybrid onsite 2-days per week) Position Type: Direct-Hire Hourly / Salary: to $145K (based on experience) + 10% bonus structure JOB SUMMARY Vaco is currently seeking a .NET Software Engineer / SRE II for a Direct-Hire opportunity that is located in Arlington, TX 76014 (hybrid onsite 2-days per week). The .NET Software Engineer / SRE II will help bridge the gap between software development and Site Reliability Engineering by leveraging strong .NET development skills to improve application reliability, automation, scalability, and operational excellence across enterprise financial platforms. About the Project: This is an ongoing multi-year digital transformation initiative (now roughly 2+ years in) focused on modernizing financial services platforms, making them more scalable, reliable, automated, and cloud-native. The .NET Software Engineer / SRE II will work alongside Software Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering teams to develop, enhance, and support internal engineering solutions that improve application reliability, automation, and developer productivity. Rather than building customer-facing business applications, the Software Engineer / SRE II will contribute to enterprise engineering initiatives by enhancing existing .NET applications, troubleshooting complex production issues, implementing automation solutions, improving operational reliability, and supporting cloud-native development practices across the Microsoft technology ecosystem. This is not a traditional infrastructure-focused SRE role, nor a typical business application developer position. Instead, it provides an opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer to expand expertise in cloud technologies, DevOps, automation, and Site Reliability Engineering while taking greater ownership of enterprise-scale engineering initiatives.
