Job description

Description The Single-function paramedic position is a part-time non-benefited position. Part-time positions are limited to 960 hours on a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30). Due to budgetary constraints operational budgets do not include funding of CalPERS employer contributions for part-time positions.

Therefore, a qualified candidate who is a member of CalPERS from current or past employment will be restricted from part-time employment. As a Single-function Paramedic for the City of La Habra Heights you will be tasked with the protection of life and property throughout the community. Working under officers you will be responding to medical emergencies, traffic collisions, rescues and non- emergency incidents while delivering high quality service to the community.

SINGLE FUNCTION PARAMEDICS ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A FIREFIGHTER 1 CERTIFICATION THROUGH INTERNAL TRAINING AND RECIPROCITY WITH A LOCAL FIRE ACADEMY WITHIN 18 MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT. Examples of Duties Essential Job Duties Provides pre-hospital care including examining patients and monitoring vital signs; establishes I.V. access administers medications utilizes advanced airways monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms and takes other basic and advanced first aid and life support actions; communicates with hospital and/or health care professionals in person or by radio; completes required reports

Restocks supplies and maintains emergency vehicles and ensures equipment is in proper working condition. The Department is looking for applicants that know the principles and practices of emergency medical care at the advanced life support level. Safety pertaining to the work is held at a high level of importance and needs to be upheld by each individual.

Being able to remain calm make sounds decisions and respond appropriately in emergency situations to maintain a safe environment. An understanding of computer report product techniques and maintaining accurate records to preparer written reports is desired. Communicating clearly and effectively both orally and in writing in the English language is required.

Los Angeles County Accreditation is highly desirable but not required at the time of job offer. Los Angeles County accreditation must be obtained within 60 days of employment. Typical Qualifications -- Active, unrestricted State of California Paramedic License -- Valid AHA BLS card.
