The Metal Hose Fitter/Fabricator Apprentice will assist with the measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembly of stainless steel flexible metal hose products. Previous welding experience is not required. Candidates may have the opportunity to perform basic tack welding depending on experience and will receive on-the-job training to develop additional fabrication and welding skills over time.

This position is an excellent stepping stone for someone interested in learning TIG welding and advancing into a skilled Metal Hose Fitter/Fabricator role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Measure and cut stainless steel flexible metal hose and related components to specified lengths.
  • Assist with fitting and assembling hose, braid, collars, fittings, adapters, flanges, and end connections.
  • Use tape measures, calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools to ensure accurate fabrication.
  • Prepare and position components for welding and final assembly.
  • Perform basic tack welding when trained and authorized.
  • Assist experienced fabricators and welders with metal hose assembly and production.
  • Follow work orders, fabrication instructions, drawings, and customer specifications.
  • Verify hose lengths, fitting orientation, and component placement before final assembly.
  • Assist with visual inspections and basic quality checks of completed assemblies.
  • Assist with pressure testing and leak testing when required.
  • Operate basic fabrication tools and equipment after receiving proper training.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Learn proper fabrication, welding, and quality procedures through hands-on training.
  • Meet established production schedules and quality expectations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • No previous welding experience required.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn fabrication and welding skills.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic measurements.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic shop equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently after training and as part of a production team.
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality.
  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, fabrication shop, manufacturing, construction, automotive, mechanical, or similar hands-on environment.
  • Basic experience with cutting, grinding, fitting, or metalworking tools.
  • Exposure to welding through a technical school, trade program, vocational class, or previous job is a plus but not required.
  • Basic tack welding experience is a plus.
  • Interest in learning TIG welding and developing into a skilled fabricator/welder.
  • Familiarity with reading basic drawings, dimensions, or work instructions.
Training and Development

This position is intended to provide a pathway into skilled metal hose fabrication and welding. The successful candidate will receive hands-on training from experienced team members in areas such as:

  • Stainless steel flexible metal hose fabrication.
  • Measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembly techniques.

  • Basic tack welding.
  • TIG welding fundamentals as skills and experience progress.
  • Reading fabrication drawings, work orders, and customer specifications.
  • Quality inspection and testing procedures.
  • Safe welding and fabrication practices.

Employees who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, and aptitude may have opportunities to take on more advanced fabrication and welding responsibilities as their skills develop.

  • Regular exposure to shop noise, machinery, metalworking equipment, welding activity, heat, sparks, and fumes.
  • Required use of safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, protective clothing, and other designated PPE.
  • Work may involve stainless steel components, cutting and fabrication equipment, compressed gases, and pressure-testing equipment.
  • Overtime may be required based on production schedules and customer demand.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and work at a fabrication station for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and lift throughout the shift.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
