Job description

Basic Function
HF Sinclair is seeking a strategic Advisor, Communications & Stakeholder Relations based in Utah, preferably in the greater Salt Lake City area. This role serves as a key advisor supporting critical business initiatives, stakeholder engagement efforts, community relations, and strategic communications across the organization. The successful candidate will help build and maintain trusted relationships with external stakeholders and community partners, while developing communication strategies that support business objectives and protect and enhance HF Sinclair's reputation. The position partners closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams to support high-impact projects, issues management and stakeholder outreach.
Job Duties
  • Develops and implements strategic communication and stakeholder engagement plans that support critical business projects, community relations initiatives, and reputation management efforts across HF Sinclair operations, with emphasis on Utah-based assets and interests.
  • Leads proactive engagement with external stakeholders, including community leaders, local organizations, industry groups, educational institutions, and government entities to strengthen relationships and build trust.
  • Provides strategic counsel to site and corporate leadership on stakeholder considerations, messaging strategies, public perception, and engagement approaches for key business initiatives.
  • Develops and executes external communication strategies that highlight HF Sinclair's operational excellence, community investments, economic impact, and commitment to responsible operations.
  • Supports internal communication efforts related to major projects and organizational initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader stakeholder engagement objectives.
  • Partners with Operations, Government Affairs, Legal, Human Resources, and Corporate Communications to align stakeholder outreach and communications strategies with business priorities.
  • Leads and supports crisis communications, issues management, and stakeholder response planning, helping protect company reputation during sensitive situations.
  • Creates and maintains stakeholder maps, engagement plans, and relationship management strategies to support long-term business objectives.
  • Monitors stakeholder sentiment, community issues, media coverage, and engagement effectiveness, using insights and analytics to refine strategies and identify emerging risks or opportunities.
  • Supports consistency with corporate brand standards, messaging frameworks, and communication best practices across all stakeholder-facing materials.
  • Represents HF Sinclair at community meetings, industry events, and stakeholder forums as needed.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
Experience
A minimum of eight years of corporate communications, or public relations is required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in journalism, communication, or public relations is required.
Required Skills
Strong written communication skills and demonstrated strategic thinking are essential. Experience collaborating with executives, business partners and stakeholders is required. The ideal candidate is proactive, motivated and focused on results. Excellent organizational abilities and keen attention to detail are expected. Proficiency in AP Style and familiarity with platforms such as SharePoint and WordPress is considered an asset for this position.
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in the energy, manufacturing, industrial, infrastructure, or highly regulated sectors preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging external stakeholders, community organizations and business leaders.
  • Experience supporting large-scale projects, capital investments, operational initiatives or complex business issues is highly desirable.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
No direct supervision of employees; may oversee contract or temporary employees.
Work Conditions
Office-based. Some travel may be required.
