Job description

ClearanceJobs’ client is seeking a Software Engineer to work on-site in Mesa, AZ, supporting Air National Guard F-16 flight simulator technology. The individual’s primary responsibility will be to design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems that support the F-16 Mission Tactics Trainer simulators, especially related to the F-16 MTT Operational Flight Program (OFP) and Center Display Unit (CDU). This involves conducting multidisciplinary research and collaborating with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for F-16 MTT simulator software.

This is a full-time position offering a salary + benefits package. An active DOD Secret Clearance with ability to upgrade to Special Access Program is required at the time of interview and Information Assurance Training (IAT) Level 2 Certification (ex. CompTIA Security+) is required to begin working (potential for the company to pay for this bootcamp exists).

Responsibilities: • Design, develop, modify, and integrate software components supporting F-16 MTT simulator functionality using C, C#, or C++ • Develop software for VxWorks • Execute compatibility validation and regression testing during modernization efforts (e.g., Windows 11 migration). • Implement and support APIs between internal and external system components • Apply Agile Software Development Lifecycle methodologies and processes • Utilize debugging and analysis tools • Maintain software baselines through formal configuration management processes. • Develop and maintain technical documentation (ICDs, STPs, test reports, design descriptions).

• Prepare and present findings and recommendations to organization leadership • Maintain compliance with RMF security controls and enclave accreditation requirements. • Support STIG implementation, vulnerability remediation, and secure configuration validation. • Coordinate with ISSO and cybersecurity personnel to preserve ATO posture.

• Ensure engineering decisions align with NIST SP 800-53 and DoD CIO directives. Required: • 3+ years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 6+ years relevant experience without a degree is acceptable. • Active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to upgrade to Special Access Program / Special Access Required (SAP/SAR).

• DOD 8570 / Information Assurance Training (IAT) Level 2 Certification required prior to start date ◦ (CompTIA Security+, CySA+, other DOD-approved IAT level II credentials) • Experience operating within Windows-based secure environments. • Effective written and oral communication skills • Excellent time management skills • Experience researching new technologies to help solve existing technical problems or shortfalls • The physical requirements listed below are representative of those that are needed by an employee to successfully perform essential job duties. ◦ Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds ◦ Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and/or ladders into a simulator or airplane cockpit ◦ Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under simulators ◦ Must be able to distinguish colors Desired: • Experience developing real-time simulation software. • Experience developing software that produces and consumes distributed simulation protocols (e.g., DIS, HLA) • Familiarity with F-16 avionics, mission systems, or fighter aircraft training environments • Experience with distributed simulation software applications, scheduling tools and environment generator applications. • Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence and Git Extensions.

• Experience in the DoD simulator community. • Experience supporting SAP efforts.
