Non-Ferrous Supervisor - Southeast
Position Title: NF Supervisor
Department: Operations
Reports To: Yard Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
The Non-Ferrous Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the non-ferrous processing area, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant handling of materials. This role leads a team of operators and sorters, manages production flow, ensures quality of sorted metals, and supports continuous improvement within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
Supervise daily non-ferrous processing activities including receiving, sorting, grading, and shipping materials. Ensure production targets are met and monitor material flow. Oversee proper identification and segregation of non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel.
Safety & Compliance
Enforce all safety policies and procedures. Conduct daily safety meetings. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company standards. Identify hazards and promote a strong safety culture.
Team Leadership
Supervise, train, and develop employees. Assign daily tasks and monitor performance. Support employee engagement and address performance concerns.
Quality Control
Ensure accurate grading and sorting of materials. Minimize contamination and maximize material value. Perform inspections and maintain quality standards.
Equipment & Yard Management
Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment including forklifts, cranes, and balers. Maintain a clean and organized yard and coordinate maintenance repairs.
Reporting & Administration
Track production metrics and maintain inventory records. Monitor labor productivity and assist in budgeting efforts.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. 3-5 years of relevant industry experience. 1-2 years supervisory experience. Knowledge of non-ferrous metals and equipment operations.
Skills & Competencies
Leadership, communication, attention to detail, problem-solving, organization, and commitment to safety.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to lift 50-75 lbs repeatedly.
  • Willingness to work in outdoor environments (heat, cold, dirt, noise).
  • Strong awareness of safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of scrap metal types (preferred but not required, training provided).

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Prior experience in scrap recycling, construction, warehouse, or labor roles is a plus.

Work Environment
  • Outdoor industrial environment with exposure to weather, heavy machinery, and noise.
  • Requires standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive physical activity throughout the shift.

Physical Requirements
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb, balance, crouch, and perform manual labor safely.
