Job description

Salary: $80,000 - 90,000
Purpose of the Role:
The Electrician's role is to maintain and repair electrical systems and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operation with minimal downtime. Responsibilities include performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting issues, installing new systems, and ensuring compliance with safety codes and standards. The Electrician also collaborates on larger projects and new installations to improve system reliability
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for completing assigned preventative maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting and repairing machinery to minimize production loss and downtime, and participating in projects and new installations as needed. Occasionally serves as the point of contact for electrical contractors on larger projects.
  • Troubleshoots 480/240/120 Vac and 230 Vdc motor control circuits, lighting, and resistive heating circuits.
  • Tests electrical systems and circuit continuity in wiring, equipment, and fixtures using appropriate testing devices and meters to measure conductors and components of electrical circuits.
  • Installs and mounts electronic controls, device panels, sensors, and components, along with associated conduit and wiring.
  • Interlocks wiring as necessary.
  • Replaces variable speed drives on equipment and repairs damaged cables.
  • Replaces and wires electronic components as required.
  • Reads blueprints and user manuals to determine proper function and installation of electrical equipment.
  • Utilizes machine information to diagnose and troubleshoot issues.
  • Collaborates with production personnel to understand equipment failures and determines the most effective course of action for resolution.
  • Assists in replacing motors and other electrical components.
  • Sizes, bends, and installs new conduit runs.
  • Assists the Plant Engineering Manager in determining work procedures.
  • Ensures all work complies with federal, state, and local electrical codes, including the NEC and NFPA70e. Collaborates with the Sims Metal Engineering Group to uphold internal standards and recommendations.

Experience Required:
  • Up to 8 years of experience as a journeyman or licensed electrician.

Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in electrical work required.
  • Valid electrician license or certification as required by state or local regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex electrical problems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with various team members, including contractors and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and tools (up to 40 lbs).
  • Ability to work in extreme cold/heat and regular exposure to heat, cold, and wet weather conditions
  • Must be comfortable with heights, confined spaces, and working in varying weather conditions.
