Role Snapshot

The Senior Electrical Engineer plays a critical role in the development, construction, commissioning, and long-term operation of Oglethorpe Power's new 1,500 MW combined cycle facility. This position partners closely with project management, EPC contractors, OEMs, and plant leadership to ensure successful delivery of the project and will transition into the lead plant electrical engineering role following commercial operation.


What You'll Do


  • Provide electrical engineering oversight during the construction and commissioning of a new natural gas–fired combined cycle facility
  • Review electrical design drawings, equipment specifications, work packages, installation plans, and delivery schedules
  • Monitor electrical equipment manufacturing and deliveries to support project schedule milestones
  • Coordinate with turbine/generator OEMs, EPC contractors, Owner's Engineer, and Oglethorpe Power management
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to weekly and monthly reporting on schedule and budget performance
  • Review inspection, testing, and commissioning activities, culminating in plant startup
  • Support NERC/SERC compliance efforts, including technical evaluations, oversight of compliance work, evidence generation, and procedure development
  • Following commissioning, serve as the plant electrical engineer with responsibility for:
    • Planning and executing major generator outages
    • Electrical system design and control system selection
    • Electrical inspections and plant modifications
    • Performance analysis and project management
    • Providing technical, business, and administrative support to plant leadership and other Oglethorpe Power facilities as needed

  • Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Sound engineering judgment with strong business and analytical acumen

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in an operating natural gas–fired combined cycle power plant
  • Demonstrated experience with planning, budgeting, preventive and predictive maintenance, and maintenance analysis
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

Skills & Knowledge

  • Technical and business knowledge of combined cycle plant operation, performance, and economics
  • Proficiency with project management software
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to work autonomously
  • Computer proficiency and comfort with reporting and documentation
  • Ability to work directly with Plant Managers and senior plant staff
  • Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards and compliance expectations
  • Valid driver's license meeting Oglethorpe Power's Driver Qualification Program requirements
  • Level II Thermographer and/or Level II Vibration Analyst certification preferred

Willingness to travel up to 10%
