What is a sim surgical technician?

A Sim Surgical technician is a specialized professional who sets up, operates, and maintains surgical simulation equipment used for training medical students and healthcare professionals. They play a key role in creating realistic clinical scenarios that help learners practice surgical procedures in a safe environment. Sim Surgical technicians also assist with troubleshooting equipment, preparing simulation labs, and ensuring that all materials and instruments are properly sanitized and functional. This role is essential in advancing medical education and patient safety by providing hands-on learning experiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a surgical simulation specialist?

To thrive as a Surgical Simulation Specialist, you need a background in healthcare or biomedical engineering, strong anatomical knowledge, and experience with simulation-based training, often supported by relevant certifications. Familiarity with surgical simulators, audiovisual equipment, and simulation software like SimMan or Laerdal systems is typically required. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills help you facilitate realistic training and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. These skills are vital for delivering effective surgical training and ensuring healthcare professionals are well-prepared for real-world procedures.

Job description

Description
The Simulator Company (thesimulatorcompany.com) manufactures AI-powered ECMO therapy simulators. Founded in 2019, we were the first UK company to manufacture manikin-based ECLS simulators. Our high-fidelity platforms train healthcare professionals in
ECMO, ECPR, LVAD and IABP therapies at hospitals, universities and training centres worldwide. Award record includes Best in Innovation 2022 (British Chamber of Commerce),
Best in Innovation 2023 (British Business Champions) and the Medical Technology Award
2025 (Titan Innovations).
We have launched our US subsidiary, The Simulator Company (US) Inc. (Delaware) - US- dollar invoicing, local support - and are appointing experienced independent reps (1099) in four territories: Northeast, Southeast, Midwest/Central and West.
THE PRODUCT LINE: E-SIM Pro 3 (complete AI-powered ECMO simulator), E-SIM Pro 2, E-SIM Mini and E-SIM Portable, E-SIM Baby Pro (paediatric ECMO simulator with AI, launching soon), Pump-E (ECMO pump simulator using real equipment without disposables), CAN-SIM cannulation trainer, and LVAD SIM (LVAD haemodynamics simulator).
THE OPPORTUNITY: ECMO programmes and simulation-based training requirements are growing across the US, and the dedicated AI-powered ECMO simulation category is barely served. You would be first on the ground with an award-winning line. Direct access to the CEO and engineering team. Full product training delivered remotely, with an optional visit to our UK Simulation Academy.
HOW WE PROTECT YOUR WORK: You are given a primary territory, and you register opportunities through our partner system as you develop them. Once an opportunity isapproved it is locked to you - no other rep, distributor or partner can work that account, and you are paid on it even if the customer later chooses to purchase from us directly.
Territories are non-exclusive by design; protection attaches to the opportunities you actually build, which means the work you do is protected rather than the map you were handed.
DEMONSTRATIONS: Delivered jointly with our clinical team by video, so you can put a simulator in front of a decision-maker within days rather than waiting on shipping and credentialing. Demo units available by arrangement for advanced opportunities.
COMPENSATION: 8-15% commission on revenue you generate, uncapped - 8-10% standard, rising to 12-15% with performance above target. Commission paid within 14 days of customer payment clearing. Capital-equipment order values mean meaningful commission per closed deal. This is a commission-only 1099 appointment: you operate as an independent business and cover your own business expenses, including travel, accommodation and customer visits. Exceptional travel requested by us is agreed and covered in advance.
TO APPLY: send a short note covering (1) your territory, (2) the capital/clinical products you have sold and to whom, (3) two or three accounts where you hold active relationships.
Candidate profile and Call Points
CALL POINTS (in order of importance): ECMO coordinators and ECMO medical directors; perfusion directors and perfusion schools; hospital simulation centre managers and simulation educators; cardiothoracic surgery and CT-ICU educators; nursing and allied health training programmes; universities and academic medical centres; purchasing/materials management for capital equipment.
CANDIDATE PROFILE: 5+ years selling capital equipment, clinical devices or training products into US hospitals, universities or simulation centres. Active, current relationships in at least one of: ECMO, perfusion, CT-ICU or simulation education. Comfortable running clinical product demonstrations, in person or by video, and committed to supporting their accounts through delivery and payment completion. Established independent operator (own LLC or sole proprietorship) able to fund their own prospecting activity; other non-competing lines welcome. Open to reps, rep groups and clinician-consultants (e.g. perfusionists with educator networks).
Territories Available
Four US territories open: Northeast (New England, NY, NJ, PA), Southeast (FL, GA, Carolinas, TN, VA), Midwest/Central (IL, OH, MI, MN, MO, TX), West (CA, WA, OR, AZ, CO).
Applications also welcome from reps in AL, CO, ID, KS, NM, NV, OK, UT and WV, and nationwide from reps with strong ECMO/perfusion networks.
