Job description

Position: Terminal Operator
Reports To: Terminal Manager
Location: Nashville, TN
General Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Terminal Shipping Operator at the Nashville TN terminal is to perform a variety of day-to-day general labor tasks, as directed, to service customers of Kosmos Cement Company. Duties will include, but not be limited to: unloading barges, loading trucks, and performing basic maintenance. The Terminal Operator will work under the direct supervision of the Terminal Manager, and be responsible for following the policies, procedures, and management directives of Kosmos Cement Company / Eagle Materials.
An overarching responsibility of this position is to follow all safety guidelines at the terminal site.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all site activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner, while adhering to safety regulations and established operational procedures
  • Immediately report and safety-related incidents
  • Work on the river to unload cement barges to keep cement inventory in silo
  • Load customer trucks with cement using the computer system
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to terminal truck-loading efficiencies and organization. This must include sound and accurate communication for all activities related to inventory and the delivery of cement, via barges.
  • Display and maintain a professional decorum at all times
  • Communicate in a timely and accurate manner with members of management, 3rd party service providers / contractors and other personnel
  • Perform maintenance and troubleshooting tasks, as required
  • Maintain organization in the processing of paperwork, computer tracking, scheduling, etc., as needed to load cement from the silo to customer trucks, in order to meet customer needs
  • Ensure accurate Bills of Lading are maintained at all times.

Qualifications:
  • Safety-minded; ability to demonstrate a good safety record
  • Good troubleshooting abilities (mechanical and electrical)
  • Ability to communicate with managers, other employees, and 3rd-party individuals in a variety of methods (in person, or electronic communication)
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain professional demeanor at all times
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Previous experience working on the river with barges is a plus
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
