Job Description Summary

The Electrician repairs, maintains, and installs wiring, motors, transformers, generators, lighting, and other electrical systems.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

ยท Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment.

ยท Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment, using suitable testing instruments

ยท Examines and tests elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes.

ยท Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators, and other simple elements of electrical systems fixtures and appliances.

ยท Renews circuits either by isolating and cutting out defective wiring and replacing it with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.

ยท Replaces defective equipment parts such as gears, bushings and bearings and other related electrical parts.

ยท As required, estimate materials needed and record time and materials expended on each work order.

ยท Will have minor supervisory duties when other tradesman is assigned to assist in the work of the electrician

ยท Installs/re-routes telecommunication lines in offices and classrooms.

ยท Installs conduit, wire, receptacles, switches, fixtures, etc. for new/remodel projects.

ยท Assist tradesmen when directed.

ยท Conduct routine building inspections to assess needs relating to electrical work and maintenance.

ยท Complete and/or maintain department records relating to the position.

ยท Responsible for general maintenance in assigned buildings.

ยท Perform preventive maintenance work on a wide variety of equipment in assigned buildings.

ยท Conducts routine maintenance, testing and inspections of backup power sources such as generators, batteries and ups.

ยท Perform daily mechanical inspection rounds in assigned buildings and log critical information.

ยท Perform other duties as assigned.

ยท Complete quarterly training assignments that is identified in the structured personal developed plan.

ยท Complete an approved craft self-assessment within 30 days of signature date

Qualification:

ยท Minimum five years of experience as maintenance electrician.

ยท An electrician's apprenticeship or equivalent on-the-job training.

ยท Education (Preferred):

ยท High school graduate GED or equivalent vocational training school.
