Job description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Configure computer network IP (manual and automatic) settings to interface with control devices.
  2. Program the latest vehicle and pedestrian detector systems to meet job requirements, to include Wavetronix, Econolite, Iteris, Polara, K&K Systems and Carmanah.
  3. Wire, configure, test and troubleshoot NEMA TS2-1, ATC, School Zone and Pedestrian control cabinets for specific site phasing and detection requirements.
  4. Maintain computers with the latest operating system updates and control equipment applications.
  5. Troubleshoot NEMA TS1, NEMA TS2-1 and ATC control cabinets and signal/wiring installation problems and failures in the field and over the phone.
  6. Process equipment repairs. Return faulty equipment to repair facility, then reinstalling the same equipment back in the field, if necessary.
  7. Ability to set up remote access computers in the field, for vendors and manufacturers to access equipment from their office.
  8. Connect, configure and troubleshoot network switches, point to point radio and cell phone communications devices.
  9. Document activities for billing and timekeeping purposes to include specific details for emergency repairs.
  10. Assist estimators in determining equipment and quantities needed for job quotes.

The Traffic Signal Technician is responsible for performing the skilled, technical work of maintaining and repairing traffic signal equipment and other electrical traffic control devices.
As the ideal candidate for this position you are able to work independently, have a safety-focused mindset, and possess the ability to communicate well with management, co-workers, contractors, and the public. Additionally, you will have experience:

  • Installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signal equipment, including signal luminaries, flashing beacon systems, and radar feedback signs
  • Repairing, replacing, or modifying signal head components, microprocessors, relays, switches, fuses, and controller cabinet parts
  • Locating and marking field signals, lighting and beacon systems, and underground infrastructure
  • Digging trenches, pouring foundations, pulling wire, and installing pull boxes and conduit
  • Estimating time, materials, and equipment necessary for successful project completion
  • Inspecting and testing contractor installed equipment
  • Investigating and responding to complaints, and after-hours, night, and weekend signal issues
  • Maintaining accurate work records; ordering supplies, parts, and materials

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Electronics or another relevant field, preferred but not required
  • Alabama Journeyman Electrician's Card
  • 10+ years relevant experience
  • Experience with NEMA TS-1 and NEMA TS2 Type1 Signal Cabinets
  • Familiarity with Econolite Cobalt, McCain, and Siemens controllers
