Job description


Job Summary:
The Sr Engineer, AI & ML will be part of the R&D team at Masimo with focus on design and creation of next-generation health monitoring devices, working on creating new non-invasive measurements, enable measurement technologies to be applied to new applications, and facilitate the design and creation of next-generation medical devices. It is a cutting-edge research and development opportunity with the potential to improve people's lives by solving real-world problems. The key focus will be in analyzing data from different sources to discover relationships among various measurements and medically relevant conditions and developing computational models for disease diagnosis, detection and prediction of critical events.
Responsibilities will include working with data from continuous streams of invasive and non-invasive sensors, electronic medical records as well as speech/audio and image/video. The Sr Engineer, AI & ML will also closely work with our software, hardware and systems teams to ensure an efficient deployment in Masimo products.
Please note this is an onsite position at our Irvine, CA. office.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop AI and ML models to solve complex problems
  • Develop new advanced algorithms using, machine learning techniques, deep learning models, digital signal processing techniques, optimization and numerical modeling in MATLAB, Python or similar software
  • Responsible for algorithm design, development, implementation, testing, and documentation for Biomedical Signal Processing systems
  • Design, train and evaluate machine learning models using large datasets in the cloud
  • Prototype new ideas/technologies to create proof of concept and demos
  • Contribute to the organization's strong drive to be on the cutting edge of technology through the generation of patentable ideas
  • Work with cross-functional teams in the R&D group, including hardware and software engineers
  • Effectively communicate with engineering and marketing teams
  • Design clinical studies to collect physiological data from human subjects, perform data collection and analysis of physiological data
  • Carry out statistical analysis of clinical data
  • Implement physiological parameter measurement algorithms on embedded systems
  • Deliver high quality software design, documentation and implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 3+ years of experience in AI/ML, statistical signal processing, and deep learning techniques, optimization methods, and numerical modeling within the medical device industry
  • Algorithm development experience using machine learning techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, etc., and deep learning techniques using neural networks, CNN, RNN, etc.
  • Expertise in data analysis and data mining
  • Experience with machine learning libraries and modern frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensor flow, Keras, scikit-learn, etc.
  • Strong programming skills in MATLAB/Python/C/C++ and exposure to software engineering methods
  • Familiarity with DSP architecture and embedded systems
  • Exposure to DSP Programming
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of human physiology and exposure to designing clinical protocols are preferred
  • Prior experience in application of AI/ML and signal processing techniques tools to bio-medical signals is a plus

Education
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field required
Compensation + Benefits: The anticipated range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience. This position also qualifies for up to 10% annual bonus based on Company, department, and individual performance.
