Position Description
SUMMARY:
Under close supervision, assist electricians, mechanics, or apprentices in their work assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Includes the following, but are not limited to:
- Dig, spread and level dirt and gravel using a pick and shovel.
- Lift, carry, distribute, and haul materials, tools, and supplies.
- Push, pull, or reposition rolling scaffolds, non-power-driven lifts, machinery on wheels, and materials and equipment on or off mobile carts as authorized by the safety Officer.
- Mix, pour and spread concrete, gravel, sand, and other materials using hand tools.
- Set and remove forms for duct banks and electrical equipment pads.
- Set up and operate water pumps for de-watering operations.
- Install PVC conduit in underground installations.
- Assist in setting manholes, handholes, pole bases and other precast concrete items.
- Clean areas using hand tools.
- Chip, cut, or remove concrete.
- Cut, bend, thread, assemble and install raceway systems
- Pull wire in raceway systems.
- Mount panels, disconnect and transfer switches, circuit breakers, control devices, meters and wireways.
- Set, level, and secure electrical apparatus.
- Set, level, and secure generators.
- Follow all Safety guidelines and report any safety hazards, violations, and injuries.
- Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
§ Must be mechanically inclined and have basic tools and possess the complete set of required tools within 6 months of employment.
§ Certified to operate a power actuated tool, if being used.
§ Possess the ability to work with people in all work levels and trades.
§ Knowledge of Drug Free Workplace and Hazardous Communications Programs.
§ Understand and follow directions.
§ Work within standards of accuracy.
§ Able to recognize obvious safety hazards and avoid them. Possess a valid driver's license.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to effectively use basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, divide, multiply) to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Good working knowledge of basic hand tools, to use effectively and safely. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the maintenance trades. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform assigned tasks.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to stand or walk, and stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl for long periods of time. Use arms and hands to reach for, hand, and manipulate objects. Must have stamina to work for extended periods of time. Be able to manually lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds, using proper lifting methods. Capable of pull, push, and reposition activities. Climb 6-to-40-foot ladders and 6-to-70-foot scaffolds. Have unimpaired vision, with or without corrective lenses. Distinguish between colors. Hearing warning signals at least 50 feet away. Hear directions within10 feet when given in a loud voice.

The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy. The work environment will have debris, materials throughout jobsite. Employee must be aware of and avoid holes trenches and other potential safety hazards on the jobsite.
