Sign Installation Assistant / Trades Apprentice
Location: FASTSIGNS | Pittsburgh, PA
Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour (Based on Experience)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Flexibility for occasional OT/early starts)
The Opportunity: Build a Career, Not Just a Job
Are you handy with power tools, comfortable on a ladder, and looking for a trade where every day is different? At FASTSIGNS/Pittsburgh, we don't just "hang signs"-we build the visual identity of our city.
We are looking for an Installation Assistant to be the "right hand" to our Lead Installer. This is a high-energy, hands-on role where you will help transport, assemble, and mount custom signs across the region. If you're tired of being stuck behind a desk or in a warehouse and want to learn electrical, carpentry, and architectural graphics, this is your starting line.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
  • Support the Mission: Assist the Lead Installer in the safe and precise mounting of channel letters, monument signs, and high-end wall graphics.
  • Master the Gear: Take ownership of the "Pre-Flight" check. You'll ensure the van is fully stocked with the correct drill bits, fasteners, and hardware before leaving the shop.
  • On-Site Precision: Help secure signs into brick, concrete, and metal. You'll be the second set of hands ensuring everything is level, centered, and safe.
  • Safety Watch: Act as the ground-safety spotter during bucket truck and aerial lift operations, ensuring the public and the crew remain safe.
  • Learn the Trade: Proactively learn the technical skills required to eventually move into a Lead Installer role.

Who You Are (Requirements)
  • Foundational Skill: You already know how to safely use a cordless drill, impact driver, and tape measure. You can read a tape measure to the 1/16th of an inch.
  • Comfort with Heights: You are 100% comfortable working on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms (up to 30ft+). No fear of heights allowed.
  • Physical Grit: This is a physical job. You must be able to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in the varied Pittsburgh weather.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: You're the person friends call when they need help fixing things. You understand how parts fit together.
  • Reliability: You are a "clock-in-early" professional. Our trucks leave on time, and the team depends on you to be there.
  • Clean Record: Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required for our insurance.

Why Join FASTSIGNS?
Forget seasonal construction or dead-end retail. We offer a stable, professional environment with a team that actually values your hard work:
  • Healthcare Support: Comprehensive coverage with 50% of your premium paid by the company.
  • Retirement: Simple IRA with company match to help you save for the future.
  • Paid Time Off: * PTO + 6 Paid Holidays.
  • Variety: Every day is a new job site. One day, you're at a downtown skyscraper; the next, you're at a local brewery.

Don't have a resume or prefer to call first. Give us a call at 412-346-8402
Compensation: $17.00 - $22.50 per hour
At FASTSIGNS, every day is unique and presents exciting opportunities, including new ways to use your talent and grow your skills. We have a large network of independently owned locations - both locally and internationally - who offer competitive pay and ongoing training opportunities.
