Job description


onsemi is looking for an experienced engineer to join the SiC Product Division as a Staff Applications Engineer. This role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As a Staff Applications Engineer, you will work in a fast-paced team that evaluates new Silicon Carbide (SiC) technologies, validates next-generation SiC power modules for industrial markets, and supports release to production. The work includes theoretical analysis of power converter topologies, simulation, and hands-on bench testing. You will interact with leading global customers and collaborate with teams across onsemi. You will also have a direct influence on future product roadmaps.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Evaluate and validate advanced SiC power modules
  • Work in a modern, well-equipped high-power laboratory
  • Design and test evaluation boards, and write application notes and datasheets
  • Partner with marketing to create collateral and support tradeshows
  • Collaborate with customers on complex power semiconductor challenges and build long-term technical relationships

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 to 6 years of experience, a Master's degree with 3 to 4 years of experience, or a PhD in power electronics
  • Experience with power module validation is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of power converter topologies
  • Solid knowledge of SiC device behavior and key tradeoffs
  • Familiarity with control theory, analog circuits, power supply design, and basic digital electronics
  • Experience with PCB layout, LabView, and/or Python is a plus
  • Strong proficiency with SPICE simulators, SIMPLIS/Simetrix, and MATLAB or equivalent tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • This is a highly visible role and includes up to 10 percent travel to support customers worldwide.
