Job description

Summary/ Objective

The position of Planner I will be responsible to develop, manage, and control detailed project schedules, interfacing with the planning staff and field personnel. This position will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.


Essential Functions

  1. Create and maintain a master work scope for tracking purposes.
  2. Walk out shutdown jobs and develop job packages that include manpower, bill of materials, equipment needs, scaffolds/insulation needs and other support needs.
  3. Identify work types (pre-shutdown, shutdown, post-shutdown).
  4. Read and understand P&ID’s and pipe specification.
  5. Assist in development of shutdown budget and manpower requirements.
  6. Review equipment and relief devices that are required to be inspected during the shutdown outage.
  7. Assist scheduler on timing of jobs and sequence of jobs.
  8. Prepare bid packages for contract work and reviewing of bid packages.
  9. Build shutdown books for field supervisor.
  10. Build files for each job with equipment drawing, plot plan location, job steps, material/parts list, specifications, and pictures.
  11. Support scheduler in update reporting.
  12. Estimate and track FCO’s during the shutdown.
  13. Identify long lead items.
  14. Identify support crafts need for shutdown.
  15. Create logistic plan for work in shutdown area.
  16. Manage a high-volume workload.
  17. Write status/progress reports.
  18. Calculate figures and amounts such as cost and percentages.
  19. Provide some technical guidance to less experienced planning personnel.
  20. Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  21. Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company.
  22. Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background checks as required.
  23. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. May be required to operate in a petrochemical/ refinery environment with exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months; exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. May be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years’ related job experience in petrochemical/ refinery industry. Experienced in the use of PC software (Excel, Word, etc.). Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic team environment and to work independently or with minimal supervision unless a complex planning and scheduling task is involved.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent business experience. Practical knowledge of subcontracting activities typical to the engineering and construction industry.
