KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for a Digital Video Producer to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Digital Video Producer will lead the creation of compelling short-form video content across KUOW's social media and web channels. The Digital Video Producer will be responsible for managing a video content calendar and ramping up to producing multiple daily videos that highlight KUOW's local news reporting and podcast content. They will work in deep collaboration with podcast showrunners, news leadership, and the marketing team (including social strategist, audio/video producer, and graphic designer) to plan, script, direct, shoot, edit, and create graphics for videos that grow and engage KUOW's digital audiences and strengthen our local news mission. This role is suitable for occasional telework.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Video Production (75%). Manage and maintain a video content calendar aligned with KUOW's news priorities, podcast releases, social schedule, and audience growth goals. Plan, script, shoot, edit, create graphics for, and post videos that translate KUOW's journalism and podcasts into engaging, platform native formats. Produce multiple daily shortform videos for social platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, BlueSky) and the KUOW website and app. Ensure KUOW's brand and editorial standards, accessibility requirements, and journalistic values are reflected in all video content.
  • Posting and Scheduling (10%). When needed, write clear, compelling captions and headlines optimized for each platform. Collaborate with social media team to stage and schedule video posts on various social media platforms, within platforms or within social media management tools.
  • Analytics and Reporting (10%). Stay current on digital and social video trends, platform best practices, and emerging storytelling formats. Track video performance to identify top performing formats, lengths, and topics. Present insights from video performance at bi-weekly Audience & Revenue meetings.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (5%). Support internal station initiatives such as fundraising campaigns. Participate in professional trainings as required by the station or the University of Washington. Assist colleagues with light video editing needs.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience producing shortform video for social media, ideally for news, media, or storytelling organizations
  • Professional experience directing video and shooting with professional camera equipment and smartphones
  • Professional experience lighting video and recording audio
  • Professional experience in every aspect of video production, including project outlining, script structuring and writing, pre-producing projects and shoots, lighting and shooting video, editing video, performing audio sync, managing edits and revisions, performing color correction and export optimization, and posting to platform
  • High competency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition, and DaVinci Resolve - or comparable software
  • Ability to take and apply feedback from editors
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and what performs well on each
  • Experience tracking and interpreting video analytics to inform creative decisions
  • Excellent storytelling instincts and ability to distill complex journalism into clear, engaging video moments
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams while also operating independently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with and appreciation of public radio & podcasts
  • Experience working in journalism / news
  • Familiarity with adaptive editing products such as Riverside and Descript

Working Conditions

  • Duties may occasionally require evening and weekend work when necessary to meet critical deadlines and/or to attend station events
  • Ability to travel when necessary to capture video footage with KUOW's marketing or editorial teams
  • Ability to lift / move 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for video shoot setup and tear down
  • Ability to stand 4 or more hours continuously for video shoot
  • Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions
  • Position is suitable/eligible for occasional/hybrid telework
  • KUOW staff are employees of the University of Washington
