Job description

Maxwood Furniture is a rapidly growing furniture company with an expanding portfolio of brands including Max & Lily, Plank + Beam, and Maxtrix. Since launching over two decades ago, we've built multiple sales channels across DTC websites and third-party marketplaces. We're passionate about designing inspiring, on-trend furniture that brings customers' home décor dreams to life.
We are seeking a new member to join our Technology team. Are you ready to be part of something amazing?
Role Overview
As we continue to scale, we're looking for a personable and strategic Product Owner to join our Technology team, embedded within our engineering group.
This role will drive the roadmap and delivery of our direct-to-consumer ecommerce websites, built on Shopify, working closely with other Product Owners to ensure alignment and share best practices.
This is a high-impact position within a fast-growing organization where the right person can make a measurable difference in the speed and quality of our DTC ecommerce delivery.
Responsibilities
Strategic Alignment & Leadership
  • Align business strategy with project execution and own the product roadmap for our DTC ecommerce websites
  • Set clear timelines and milestones for projects, accelerating delivery and improving agility
  • Coordinate and collaborate closely with other Product Owners to ensure consistency and alignment across initiatives
Communication & Collaboration
  • Serve as the main point of contact for assigned Shopify projects, ensuring clear communication with business and technology teams
  • Maintain frequent and consistent updates with stakeholders and internal teams
  • Negotiate priorities with business stakeholders and other Product Owners
  • Facilitate standups, release communications, and cross-department collaboration
Project & Backlog Management
  • In coordination with peers, manage and prioritize the workload for engineers and QA analysts, ensuring tasks are clearly defined and appropriately assigned (without direct people management)
  • Oversee the product backlog for DTC ecommerce initiatives, triage incoming tickets, and balance short-term delivery with long-term vision
  • Track progress against roadmap milestones and report status updates tailored to target groups
  • Identify blockers and risks that might affect project timelines and communicate them proactively
Requirements Gathering & Documentation
  • Gather and document requirements, write user stories and acceptance criteria, and shepherd projects from discovery through deployment
  • Move epics and projects through the workflow, from initial concept to release
  • Facilitate deployment and conduct user training as needed
  • Support special projects as needed
What Success Looks Like
  • The DTC ecommerce roadmap moves forward on schedule, with milestones consistently hit
  • Engineers and QA analysts have clearly defined, well-prioritized work at all times
  • Business and technology stakeholders stay aligned, with minimal surprises or miscommunication
  • Cross-functional coordination with other Product Owners is smooth and consistent
  • Risks and blockers are surfaced early, not after they've already caused delays
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner, ideally in ecommerce or DTC environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Marketing, or related field
  • Hands-on experience with Shopify (Shopify Plus preferred), including theme customization, apps, and checkout configuration
  • Strong project management skills, with experience using Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Experience using enterprise project management software-preferably Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working cross-functionally with business and technical teams, including other Product Owners
  • Familiarity with the broader DTC ecommerce toolset (analytics, A/B testing, personalization, and marketing integrations) a plus
Core Competencies
  • Highly self-motivated and data-driven
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptable and solution-focused
  • Professional and confident communicator
  • Flexible and able to work effectively with a variety of personalities
Benefits
  • 401(k) matching
  • Dental Insurance
  • Employee Discount
  • Flexible Schedule
  • Flexible Spending Account
  • Health Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
Work Location
This role is based in our Charleston, SC office. Hybrid work option available after 90 days of successful in-office performance.
