Job description

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing security for employees and visitors.  Protects shipyard buildings, assets and premises as assigned.

Performance Requirements:

  • Patrols facility buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and intruders. Monitors conduct of visitors on premises; confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, as needed. Reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Participates in investigations; maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities as required.
  • Controls parking and traffic flow; enforces parking regulations.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Maintains records, reports, files as required.
  • Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
  • Responds to calls for assistance in a prompt, courteous and efficient manner.
  • Attends all meetings and in-services, as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Qualifications:
  • Ability to read, write, and understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic.
  • Must be able to make decisions quickly and in accordance with established protocol.
  • Must have or be willing to be trained in first responder and first aid training.
  • Two years' experience in security preferred.

Working Environment & Physical Requirements:

Light to moderate physical effort 90% of the time. May be exposed to elements (heat, cold, rain, snow). Ability to push, pull and lift in excess of 50 lbs.
