Job description

Founded in 2018, SoulShine Farms has quickly grown to be a local further-processing poultry industry leader. Our work revolves around our values, our people, and our dedication to quality.
SoulShine Farms is seeking an experienced, hands-on Shipping and Receiving Manager to lead shipping, receiving, warehousing, inventory control, and transportation coordination across our two poultry production facilities in Gainesville, Georgia.  This position will report to the Site Operations Director and have two supervisors, overseeing approximately 24 team members.  This leader will ensure products and materials move safely, accurately, and efficiently while meeting customer, food safety, quality, operational, and regulatory requirements. The position requires regular travel between both Gainesville facilities and visibility across multiple shifts.
Key Responsibilities - Day to Day

  • Lead shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory, and material-handling operations across both facilities.
  • Coordinate staffing, schedules, dock activity, carrier appointments, trailer availability, pickups, and deliveries.
  • Ensure incoming products and materials are properly received, inspected, documented, temperature-checked, rotated, and stored.
  • Oversee order preparation, staging, loading, and shipment release, including verification of counts, weights, lot numbers, labels, temperatures, product condition, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and oversee cycle counts, physical inventories, reconciliations, and variance investigations.
  • Ensure effective product rotation, traceability, lot control, warehouse organization, and inventory-aging management.
  • Resolve shortages, rejected loads, damaged products, receiving discrepancies, transportation disruptions, and documentation concerns.
  • Maintain accurate bills of lading, shipping manifests, certificates, and other required records.
  • Ensure compliance with company food safety and quality standards, HACCP plans, SSOPs, GMPs, customer requirements, and applicable USDA-FSIS expectations.
  • Partner with Food Safety and Quality on temperature controls, product holds, traceability, sanitation, housekeeping, and audit readiness.
  • Monitor shipment accuracy, on-time performance, transportation costs, loading and unloading times, product damage, and labor productivity.
  • Develop consistent processes, standard operating procedures, training materials, and performance routines across both facilities.
Key Responsibilities - Lead and Develop the Team
  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership to supervisors and hourly employees across multiple shifts.
  • Establish clear expectations for safety, food safety, quality, productivity, accuracy, attendance, teamwork, and customer service.
  • Coach and develop employees through regular feedback, recognition, performance evaluations, and development planning.
  • Address performance concerns and complete corrective action when necessary.
Support recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, retention, succession planning, and workforce planning.
  • Build employee engagement through open communication, team meetings, individual check-ins, recognition, and timely follow-up on concerns.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained and qualified to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, dock equipment, and other material-handling equipment.
Key Responsibilities - Promote Safety and Continuous Improvement
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable safety requirements.
  • Monitor forklifts, pallet jacks, dock equipment, trailers, racking, and storage areas.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Engineering to address equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and operational improvements.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, equipment damage, product damage, and unsafe conditions.
  • Use operational and workforce data to improve inventory accuracy, warehouse flow, labor productivity, service, cost, and consistency.
  • Support system implementations, capital projects, customer initiatives, and operational changes affecting shipping, receiving, inventory, or transportation.

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of progressive experience in shipping, receiving, warehousing, logistics, transportation, or inventory management.
  • Previous direct leadership responsibility and demonstrated success leading employees across multiple shifts, departments, or facilities.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control, warehouse operations, transportation documentation, carrier coordination, product traceability, and temperature-controlled distribution.
  • Experience using ERP, warehouse management, inventory, production, or transportation systems.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, organization, decision-making, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, labor-intensive, refrigerated poultry production environment.
  • Ability to travel regularly between both Gainesville facilities and respond to urgent operational issues outside normal working hours when needed.
  • Ability to hear, speak, read, and comprehend communications in English.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Poultry processing, food manufacturing, refrigerated warehousing, or another high-volume regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of USDA-FSIS requirements, HACCP principles, GMPs, sanitation practices, food safety, and product-hold procedures.
  • Multi-site distribution or warehouse leadership.
Continuous improvement, lean operations, warehouse optimization, or labor-productivity initiatives.
  • Powered industrial truck certification or responsibility for equipment-training programs.
Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
Key Measures of Success
Success in this role will be measured through safety and compliance, accurate and on-time shipments, carrier reliability, inventory and traceability accuracy, labor productivity, overtime management, loading and unloading efficiency, product damage, equipment downtime, employee training, attendance, retention, engagement, and consistent performance across both Gainesville facilities.
