What You'll Be Doing
As a Shipfitter, you'll play a critical role in the fabrication and assembly of structural components used in ship construction and repair. You'll work from blueprints and technical drawings to ensure precise fit-up, alignment, and assembly before welding operations begin.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and job specification
- Lay out, position, fit, and assemble steel components and ship structures
- Prepare materials through grinding, straightening, drilling, reaming, deburring, and other fabrication techniques
- Set up and align parts to ensure proper fit and dimensional accuracy
- Perform tack welding when required to secure components
- Correct distortions and perform rework to maintain required tolerances
- Inspect completed work and verify quality standards are met
- Work safely and efficiently in a production shipyard environment
- Partner with welders, fabricators, and production teams to meet project schedules
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 4 years of Shipfitter experience in a shipyard environment
- Strong blueprint and drawing interpretation skills
- Experience with structural fit-up, alignment, and assembly
- Familiarity with shipbuilding fabrication tools and equipment
- Ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standards
- Previous experience with tack welding and weld preparation
- Strong understanding of shipyard safety practices
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and correct fabrication issues
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Jacksonville, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
