Shipbuilding Remote information

What is shipbuilding remote work?

Shipbuilding remote work refers to roles within the shipbuilding industry that can be performed offsite, typically using digital tools to collaborate with onsite teams. These positions may include design, engineering, project management, procurement, or IT support, where work can be done using specialized software and communication platforms. Remote shipbuilding jobs allow professionals to contribute to ship design, planning, and coordination without being physically present at the shipyard, though some onsite visits may occasionally be required. This approach offers flexibility and can help companies tap into a wider talent pool.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a remote shipbuilding role?

To excel in a remote shipbuilding position, you need a solid understanding of ship design principles, marine engineering, and relevant industry standards, often supported by a degree in naval architecture or marine engineering. Familiarity with CAD software, project management tools, and digital collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for working independently and coordinating with distributed teams. These skills ensure that complex shipbuilding projects are executed efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with safety and regulatory requirements, even when working remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in remote shipbuilding roles, and how can they be effectively addressed?

One common challenge in remote shipbuilding roles is maintaining clear communication and coordination with on-site teams, as physical distance can lead to misunderstandings or delays in project updates. To address this, professionals often rely on robust digital collaboration tools and regular virtual meetings to stay aligned with project milestones and resolve issues promptly. Additionally, remote workers must be proactive in documenting their work and providing detailed reports to ensure transparency. Embracing these practices helps remote shipbuilding professionals stay connected with their teams and contribute effectively to complex projects.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Product Manager, APIs based in Netherlands.

This is a fully remote senior individual contributor role for a technically strong product leader who thrives at the intersection of product, engineering, and customer experience. You will own an API-focused product area end to end, from strategy and architecture to adoption and long-term impact. Working closely with engineering leads and staff engineers, you will contribute directly to technical direction and use hands-on prototyping to solve complex problems. The role offers substantial autonomy and the opportunity to influence products that support global employment and payroll operations. You will work in a highly distributed, asynchronous environment where thoughtful documentation, decisive action, and strong collaboration are essential. It is an ideal opportunity for a product manager who enjoys turning complicated operational challenges into reliable, intuitive products.

Accountabilities
  • Own the product area end to end, including product strategy, roadmap, delivery, adoption, hypercare, and ongoing customer and internal-team experience.
  • Partner as a peer with Engineering Leads and Staff Engineers on architecture, technical direction, design quality, and implementation decisions.
  • Form independent technical opinions and actively contribute to design reviews, using prototypes and hands-on experimentation to validate assumptions and resolve open questions.
  • Design and maintain high-quality API products, including contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, integration patterns, and developer experience.
  • Work directly with operational specialists and subject-matter experts to understand real workflows, identify root causes, and prioritize the problems that create the greatest impact.
  • Collaborate with payroll, tax, operations, engineering, and other cross-functional teams to translate complex requirements into scalable product solutions.
  • Monitor product adoption and outcomes beyond launch, ensuring that solutions continue to deliver value months after release.
  • Document product decisions, technical reasoning, requirements, and proposals clearly through written specifications, recorded walkthroughs, and other asynchronous communication.
  • Use AI-native development tools, including Cursor and/or Claude Code, to autonomously prototype, debug, and ship functional code where appropriate.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Product Manager in a high-growth environment, ideally within B2B products or complex technology platforms.
  • Strong technical depth and the ability to engage confidently with engineers and technical leaders on architecture, APIs, system design, and implementation trade-offs.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Cursor and/or Claude Code, with the ability to independently build, debug, and ship functional code or prototypes rather than relying solely on specifications.
  • Experience owning API-first products, including API contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, integrations, and developer experience.
  • Professional experience in payroll, HR, benefits, fintech, or another domain involving complex operational or financial workflows is highly valuable.
  • Strong strategic and tactical judgment, with the ability to determine what to prioritize while maintaining appropriate scope and execution focus.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable product outcomes through self-directed initiatives and effective product leadership.
  • Strong product design and UX instincts, with an appreciation for creating simple, reliable experiences around complex problems.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with engineering, operations, sales, and other business functions.
  • Strong written and spoken English skills at a business-professional level.
  • Comfortable working autonomously in a fully remote, asynchronous environment; prior remote experience is a plus.
  • Curiosity, ownership, initiative, and a preference for taking action and experimenting rather than relying on meetings to make progress.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation: Base salary ranges from $59,900 to $168,500, with actual compensation determined by location, experience, skills, training, business needs, and market conditions.
  • Location-based compensation: Compensation is structured using geographic ranges to maintain competitive and equitable pay across global markets.
  • Work from anywhere: Fully remote work with the flexibility to work from your preferred location.
  • Flexible working hours: An asynchronous working model allows you to organize your schedule around your life rather than around a meeting-heavy calendar.
  • Flexible paid time off: Take time away from work according to your needs and local employment arrangements.
  • Paid parental leave: Up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Stock options: Eligibility for equity participation as part of the overall compensation package.
  • Mental health support: Access to mental health support services.
  • Learning budget: Financial support for professional learning and development.
  • Home office support: Budget for home office needs and IT equipment.
  • Social and coworking budget: Support for local in-person social events and coworking spaces.
  • Life-work balance: A culture that encourages employees to prioritize their personal lives and family while taking ownership of their work.
  • Global and inclusive environment: Collaborate with colleagues across multiple continents in a highly distributed and culturally diverse organization.
