Work EnvironmentRemote, often freelance or contract-basedOffice or on-site at shipyards or design firms, sometimes remote
Industry UsageDesigning ships remotely, collaborating with teams worldwideOverseeing ship design, structural analysis, and safety compliance

Ship Design Remote involves creating ship designs from a remote location, often with flexible hours, while Naval Architects typically work on-site or in offices, focusing on detailed design and safety standards. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds but differ mainly in work setting and scope of responsibilities.

How does working remotely as a ship designer impact collaboration with naval architects and engineering teams?

Remote ship designers typically collaborate with naval architects and multidisciplinary engineering teams using digital tools such as CAD software, project management platforms, and video conferencing. While physical model reviews or shipyard visits may be less frequent, regular virtual meetings and document sharing ensure effective communication and project alignment. Staying proactive in communication and being comfortable with collaborative technology are key to overcoming challenges such as time zone differences or limited in-person interactions. This setup allows for flexibility while maintaining high standards in design and project coordination.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Ship Design Engineer working remotely, and why are they important?

To thrive as a remote Ship Design Engineer, you need a solid background in naval architecture or marine engineering, often requiring a relevant degree and experience with ship design principles. Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD, Rhino, or ShipConstructor) and familiarity with regulatory standards like IMO and classification societies are essential. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills help you collaborate effectively with distributed teams and manage projects independently. These skills and qualifications are critical to ensuring high-quality, compliant designs and seamless teamwork despite the remote work environment.

What is ship design remote work?

Ship design remote work refers to the process of designing ships and marine vessels using digital tools and software from a location outside of a traditional office or shipyard. Professionals in this field use computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation software to create, modify, and analyze ship structures, systems, and layouts. Remote ship designers often collaborate with engineering teams and clients through online platforms, ensuring that all specifications and safety standards are met. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication, as much of the work is done virtually.

It's fun to work in a company where people truly believe in what they are doing. At Dutch Bros Coffee, we are more than just a coffee company. We are a fun-loving, mind-blowing company that makes a difference one cup at a time.

Position Overview:

At Dutch Bros, technology exists for one reason: to make it easier for our people to do what they do best-create meaningful connections and serve others with speed, quality, and a whole lot of energy.
As a Service Platform Engineer - AI & Automation, you'll design, build, and continuously improve the technology that powers the employee support experience, ensuring our Broistas, shop teams, and corporate partners get the help they need fast-so they can stay focused on the people in front of them.

Success here takes curiosity, a continuous improvement mindset, and a passion for using technology to remove friction. Every enhancement you ship should make it easier for our Broistas and support teams to deliver the one-of-a-kind Dutch Bros experience-and help the platform grow right alongside the company.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, preferred

  • 3+ years of experience administering or engineering enterprise service platforms such as Zendesk, ServiceNow, Freshservice, Jira Service Management, or similar.

  • Hands-on experience implementing AI capabilities in a service context-virtual agents, AI-powered triage, agent assist, generative AI workflows, or similar.

  • Experience designing workflows, automations, integrations, and business process improvements.

  • Experience with APIs, scripting, or low-code/no-code automation platforms (e.g., Workato, Power Automate, Zapier, or platform-native tools).

  • Use data and employee feedback to drive platform enhancements.

Analytics & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop dashboards and reporting that turn platform data into actionable operational insights.

  • Analyze trends to spot automation opportunities and drive proactive, predictive improvements.

  • Collaborate with Technology Operations, Engineering, HR, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, automation-driven solutions.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor on service platform, AI, and automation capabilities and best practices.
