CNC Machinist (VTL) – Night ShiftCompany Overview

Role Overview

Mitsubishi Power is seeking a skilled Machinist to join our Savannah, GA facility on second shift. In this role, the Machinist will independently interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and other technical data to determine tooling needs, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences. While the regular schedule is second shift, new hires will complete 3–6 months of training on first shift to ensure a strong foundation for success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership
  • Independently set up and operate large CNC Vertical Turning Lathes
  • Machine large gas turbine components to tight dimensional and geometric tolerances
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T
  • Select tooling, fixtures, and machining strategies appropriate for large forgings and castings
  • Optimize cutting parameters to improve quality, cycle time, and tool life
  • Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measurement tools
  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues with minimal supervision
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Quality teams to support first-time-right builds
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
Requirements
  • 5-7+ years of CNC machining experience in heavy industrial manufacturing
  • Strong experience operating large VTL machines
  • Proven ability to machine large, tight-tolerance components
  • Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills
  • Experience with alloy steels, carbon steels, stainless steels, and large forgings
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work night shift after initial training period
