We offer fully integrated shop services including state-of-the-art technologies, engineering, design, manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance and repair. We are qualified, experienced, and positioned to be the single source provider for clients' custom shell and tube heat transfer equipment, whether it's a full unit turnaround, or shop repair.

Job Summary

Redman Equipment & Manufacturing Co. is seeking a Boilermaker to perform the necessary tasks required to repair, retube, rebuild, and construct shell and tube heat exchangers of various types and other process equipment associated with the Refining, Petrochemical, and Chemical Processing Industry.

Assembles tube sheets, tubes, and heat exchanger shells, producing heat exchangers or takes used heat exchangers apart for re-tubing and refurbishing. The job includes bolting flanges and closures on shell and tube heat exchangers, grinding metal, sanding metal, disassembly, assembly, using impact wrenches, operating lifting equipment, cutting metal, checking metal integrity, and hydrostatic leak checking. This role may also occasionally require hot work on metal, hydroblasting, and abrasive blasting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Sets up raw or semi finished material onto work horses or rotating work stands
  • Uses compressed air and electric equipment including but not limited to circular hand grinders, impact (hydraulic) wrenches, band saws, hand drills, and tube end punchersย 
  • Physically lifts 50 pound equipment, uses bridge cranes, may become certified to use forklifts, and may become certified to use mobile cranes
  • Plans layout of tube sheets with baffles and supporting parts, cuts metal baffles and rods, threads rods, lines up this cage assembly, guides a work crew to install tubes into cage (assemblies of tube sheets, baffles, and supporting parts), producing a bundle assembly
  • Removes tubes by use of cutting or tube pulling equipment to sledge hammers
  • Grinds & sands metal plates (tube sheets, baffles, & supporting parts) & metal cylinders (shells)
  • Drills bolt holes as needed, records tube sheet hole identification pattern
  • Finishes tube ends to be shaped and flush with tube sheet, often using a rolling machine
  • Inspects for metal defects using dye penetrant
  • Pressure testing using water or nitrogen
  • Tack weld bundles, use torch or may use plasma arc to cut metal, may gouge to liquefy metal
  • Corrects defects as required
  • Operates equipment or power tools when authorized and qualified to do so and in accordance with established company rules and work orders.Performs assigned tasks in a safe manner, avoiding all unsafe practices
  • Performs internal quality control of assembly, cleaning, and test procedures
  • Sets up and performs jobs based on shop practices and procedures, cleans up debris
  • Must be able to work, when necessary, plus overtime day or night shift and/or weekends.
  • Complies with all applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the company.
  • Cleans up work area and equipment after work is completed and/or at end of each shift.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Should have a minimum of one year of construction or large manufacturing work related experience, kowledge of a fabrication shop, producing and refurbishing heat exchangers experience a plus.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent experience, knowledge of fabrication shop practices
  • Must speak, read and write English and be able to use measuring devices
  • Must be in good physical shape to be able to handle heavy impact (hydraulic) wrenches and other equipment
  • Must be willing to abide by shop safe work, job set up, and clean up practices
  • Must be able to working under these conditions: Heat, noisy, dusty, dirty, cold, chemical exposures, pinching hazards, stand for periods of time, able to bend, push/pull, twist, squat, crawl, lift & climb, requires 50 lb. lifting ability, and exposed to normal shop hazards.

Physical Demands

The job requires standing for long periods, as well as the ability to bend, push, pull, twist, squat, crawl, lift, and climb. Employees must navigate pinching hazards and normal shop hazards, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
