Lancium is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer (P&C) to serve as the technical authority for protection and control systems across large-scale electrical infrastructure supporting hyperscale data center campuses and grid-integrated energy systems. This role is responsible for ensuring high-reliability, secure, and compliant protection schemes, aligned with mission-critical data center operations and utility/grid requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead design and technical oversight of Protection & Control (P&C) systems across HV/MV substations and transmission interconnections
  • Review protection philosophies, relay coordination, and settings calculations
  • Ensure system selectivity, fault isolation, and reliability across complex power networks
  • Oversee substation automation, SCADA integration, and communication protocols
  • Collaborate with Substation Design, Studies, and Data Center teams to ensure integrated system performance
  • Support and validate power system studies (short circuit, load flow, dynamic stability, protection coordination)
  • Ensure compliance with ERCOT/ISO requirements, IEEE, NERC PRC standards, and NEC codes
  • Review EPC designs, drawings, and relay settings; provide technical direction and approvals
  • Verify commissioning, relay testing, and energization and operational activities, including troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Lead disturbance analysis and misoperation investigations, implementing corrective actions
  • Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 12+ years of experience in power systems engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with substations, data centers, grid interconnection, and energy systems
  • Expertise in relay protection schemes, including line, transformer, bus, and feeder protection
  • Strong experience in relay settings development and coordination studies
  • Deep knowledge of substation automation, SCADA, and communication systems
  • Proven experience in HV/MV substation design and grid interconnection
  • Proficiency with power system analysis tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, PSS®E, and PSCAD
