Sheboygan County is seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanic II to join our Highway Department team. If you enjoy diagnosing complex problems, working with cutting-edge equipment, and seeing the direct impact of your work on the community, this could be the opportunity for you.
As a Mechanic II, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and repairing the fleet and equipment that keeps County roads safe and operational year-round. Essential Duties
This is more than a mechanic position-it's a career where your expertise supports public safety, emergency response, winter operations, infrastructure improvements, and the daily transportation needs of residents throughout Sheboygan County.
What You'll Do
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of light- and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and equipment overhauls.
  • Conduct DOT inspections and maintain repair documentation.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment and specialized tools.
  • Support winter maintenance operations and emergency response efforts.
  • Respond to field service calls and help keep critical equipment operating safely and efficiently.
  • Work with a team dedicated to maintaining one of the County's most valuable assets-its fleet.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
  • Four years of experience in automotive, diesel, or fleet maintenance and repair.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to work independently and solve complex equipment issues.
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer service.
  • Valid CDL or ability to obtain required endorsements.
  • ASE certifications or coursework are a plus.
