Job description

We're seeking a Medical Assistant who is fluent in both English and Spanish to support our growing dermatology practice. This role serves a diverse patient population and requires the ability to communicate confidently with patients in both languages.

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (1 hour lunch)

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, collect medical histories, record vital signs, and document information accurately in the EMR.
  • Manage patient flow throughout the day to help keep providers on schedule.
  • Prepare exam rooms, procedure trays, instruments, and equipment for patient care.
  • Assist providers with dermatologic procedures including biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and other in-office treatments.
  • Collect, label, and process pathology and laboratory specimens according to practice protocols.
  • Prepare medications and supplies for procedures under provider direction and within scope of practice.
  • Answer patient questions in person and by phone, providing education and escalating clinical concerns when appropriate.
  • Manage clinical communications including task lists, nurse line messages, patient portal messages, voicemails, and faxes.
  • Document patient encounters and assist with medical scribing in the EMR as needed.
  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Monitor inventory, remove expired supplies, and restock exam rooms and clinical storage areas.
  • Communicate pathology results and coordinate follow-up care as directed by the provider.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and company policies.
  • Support overall clinic operations by assisting with additional clinical and administrative responsibilities as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assess and triage patient concerns appropriately within scope of practice.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Bloodborne Pathogen standards.
  • Experience obtaining vital signs, documenting patient information, and preparing patients for clinical visits.
  • Experience administering injections in a clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Basic understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and insurance documentation preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office equipment (computer, scanner, copier, fax, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with providers, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize competing responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to additional clinic locations as needed

Qualificaitons:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (required)
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-PA track preferred
  • 1-2 years of recent experience in a Medical Assistant, CNA, or similar patient care role preferred
  • Dermatology experience is a plus, but not required

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Frequent movement including bending, reaching, twisting, and maintaining balance
  • Regular use of hands and fingers for clinical and administrative tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone (speaking and listening)
  • Handling of clinic materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Exposure to clinical environments, including potential contact with infectious materials, chemicals, and sharp instruments
