Job description

Applicants must be third or fourth-year students of accredited domestic or international veterinary schools, pursuing a DVM, VMD, or foreign equivalent.

Nashville Veterinary Specialists in Nashville, Tennessee, is the area's premier specialty and emergency facility, offering seven services with board-certified specialists and 24/7 emergency care. We are excited to welcome third- and fourth-year veterinary student externs into our hospital to experience and learn from a diverse professional group and caseload in a highly collaborative specialty environment. Program Overview:

Student externs will visit our facility in two- to eight-week blocks, depending on your goals, interests, availability, and school requirements. You may choose to focus on one or two services, or rotate through many for a highly personalized educational experience. The typical schedule includes Monday through Friday day shifts, but you can elect to add evenings, weekends, or overnights if you want more emergency and critical care exposure. Student externs participate in daily rounds and ICU rounds, shadow veterinarians, and may perform basic procedures or participate in surgery as cases allow.
Our facility currently offers the following services:

  • Emergency Critical Care
  • Cardiology
  • Surgery
  • Neurology
  • Internal medicine
  • Oncology
  •  Anesthesia and pain management

Why choose NVS?

As our area's premier specialty and emergency hospital, we see a dense, diverse caseload. We are dedicated to our environment of support, collaboration, and teamwork, and are always strengthening our already-strong bonds among our 165 team members. The hospital has advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities, with an in-house MRI, CT, laboratory, ultrasound, and endoscopy. We also participate in several active green initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint and attract clients with similar values. We are in the heart of Nashville, the popular "music city," where you can experience live music and events any night of the week and enjoy other city-life creature comforts. The great Smoky Mountains and tourist-mecca Gatlinburg are only a short drive away for those seeking outdoor adventure and epic entertainment.

Are you ready to experience all that NVS and Nashville have to offer? Apply now!
