Position Title: Lead Field Commissioning Specialist (Mechanical)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Field Commissioning Specialist with a strong mechanical background to join our expanding on-site deployment team. This hands-on role focuses on the mechanical installation, precision assembly, alignment, commissioning, and optimization of custom automated machinery, robotic cells, and industrial handling systems at client facilities. You will travel to customer sites to work alongside controls engineers and project managers to ensure seamless equipment integration, successful validation, and complete customer handoff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Integration: Execute the physical installation, structural rigging, assembly, and precision alignment of automated systems and advanced robotic units at customer plants.
  • System Start-Up: Support the mechanical start-up, dry-run testing, calibration, and performance tuning of automated cells, conveying systems, and peripheral tooling.
  • Technical Document Interpretation: Read and accurately interpret complex mechanical blueprints, facility layout drawings, pneumatic schematics, and structural assembly guides.
  • Component Installation: Mount and align industrial robotic arms, custom end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), safety guarding, and custom structural framing.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Partner with controls engineers and system programmers during initial power-up, I/O testing, and software debugging phases.
  • Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and fluid power issues during system installation and the initial production ramp-up.
  • Quality & Validation: Conduct comprehensive mechanical inspections and performance verifications to ensure the equipment meets strict design and safety specifications.
  • Field Modifications: Perform minor fabrication, adjustments, or machining in the field to resolve unexpected structural alignment or clearance challenges.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all on-site activities adhere to strict industry safety standards, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols and facility-specific safety rules.
  • Customer Handover: Provide technical guidance, operational walk-throughs, and hands-on maintenance training to client plant personnel during system handoff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical degree, trade certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in Mechanical Systems, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial field service, machine building, heavy equipment installation, or system commissioning (startup and integration experience is highly preferred over routine plant maintenance).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, including the use of precision measurement tools, dial indicators, lasers, and alignment hardware.
  • Proficiency in reading structural mechanical drawings, layout prints, and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Practical understanding of industrial pneumatic, hydraulic, and fluid power systems.
  • Basic familiarity with industrial electrical control panels and cabinet layouts.
  • Full flexibility to travel up to 70% to customer locations for installation and commissioning projects.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and the ability to obtain/maintain a passport for occasional international travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical experience working around major industrial robotics platforms (such as Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa).
  • Basic understanding of PLC operations and how mechanical hardware interfaces with automated control architectures.
