Job Summary: ย The Banquet Setup & Steward Associate supports the daily operations of Plate Above Catering by assisting with banquet room setup, event breakdown, equipment movement, dishwashing, sanitation, storage organization, and catering support. This position plays an important role in ensuring that event spaces, service equipment, kitchenware, and catering storage areas are clean, organized, properly prepared, and ready for service.ย

hunger-relief organization in the United States. Second Harvest Food Bank secures and distributes food and grocery

products to more than 800 feeding partners throughout Central Florida. With the help of food and financial

Department Overviewย 

Food Service and Catering Department supports Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida's mission by providing high-quality meal service, catering, and food production for internal programs, community partners, and external clients. The department is focused on operational excellence, food safety, customer service, and mission-driven hospitality while maintaining efficient labor, cost controls, and consistent service standards. Team members work collaboratively across production, culinary, sales, and event operations to deliver professional, reliable, and high-quality food service experiences.ย 

Work Scheduleย 

Hours will vary based on catering event schedules and operational needs. Schedule may include weekdays, evenings, Saturdays, occasional Sundays, and early mornings or late nights depending on events.

Travel Requirementsย 

  • May be required to support offsite events, deliveries, loading, unloading, or event setup.ย 
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred if the role assist with company vehicle use or offsite event support.ย 
Core Responsibilities
  • Set up, break down, and reset banquet rooms, meeting spaces, buffet stations, and event areas for onsite and offsite catering events.ย 
  • Arrange tables, chairs, linens, decor, serviceware, and event equipment according to banquet event orders and client specifications.ย 
  • Support event operations by staging supplies, replenishing inventory, clearing tables, and maintaining clean, organized service areas throughout events.ย 
  • Load, unload, transport, and organize catering equipment, supplies, and materials for events.ย 
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, cookware, utensils, serviceware, linens, and catering equipment in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.ย 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchens, stewarding areas, storage rooms, event spaces, and support areas.ย 
  • Assist with inventory organization, stocking, receiving deliveries, and maintaining catering equipment and supplies.ย 
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and chemical handling procedures.ย 
  • Collaborate with culinary, catering, banquet, and operations teams to ensure successful event execution and exceptional guest experiences.ย 
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Plate Above Catering and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience as a steward or dishwasher in a banquet facility.
  • Some post-secondary education preferred
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Be willing to follow direction and ask questions for clarification if needed.
  • Ability to perform required kitchen duties as assigned, including standing for long periods of time, lifting (which may include up to 50 lbs.), bending, working in a wet, humid and loud environment, and working in rooms with cool temperatures (below 40 F).
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting SHFB's mission; shows compassion and an appreciation for hunger and poverty issues
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Flexibility with business demands including some evenings and weekends

Desired but Not Requiredย 

  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification or equivalent.ย 
  • Experience setting up banquet rooms or catered events.ย 
  • Experience using commercial dishwashing equipment.ย 
  • Experience with catering equipment, chafers, hot boxes, cambros, carts, racks, linens, and serviceware.ย 
  • Experience supporting offsite events or loading catering vehicles.ย
