Job description

Service Leader for Colorectal service line 

Day shift 8- or 10-hour day shift with eye call obligation -No weekends except for call. 

2 years OR RN Experience Preferred 

1 plus year of Service Leader Experience Preferred

A Brief Overview
 

Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using the nursing process in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.

What You Will Do
 

  • Implements the nursing process by delivering effective relationship based nursing care.
  • Demonstrates technical skills in care delivery that result in safe practice and positive care outcomes.
  • Demonstrates clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations.
  • Develops self and contributes to the professional practice of nursing.
  • Displays leadership that influences optimal clinical and operational outcomes.
  • Performs as a knowledge expert and resource person for the service line.
  • Holds self and staff accountable to following procedural standards, protocols and policies.
  • Displays understanding and provides guidance for the technical aspects of procedures as it relates to the service line.
  • Assesses daily schedule and facilitates meeting patient specific needs.
  • Demonstrates ability to operate service specific equipment.
  • Participates in the unit shared governance structure, satisfaction surveys and follows up as appropriate.
  • Maintain provider specific procedure preferences and service tray lists.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the implications from vendor changes by acknowledging the impact and effects on the affiliated hospitals.
  • Facilitate service line improvements and changes as required and communicate implications.
  • Participate in and report on meeting quality management goals.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility as evidenced by knowledge of supply cost, supply cost per case information, capital budget, etc.
  • Develop and review service line protocols and reference manuals.
  • Institute measures to impact case turnover and on time procedure starts.
  • Actively participate in facilitating and tracking staff knowledge and competency including input involvement with the staff evaluation process.
  • Arrange coverage of responsibilities, provide report and delegate duties when scheduled off duty.

Additional Responsibilities
 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
Education
  • (BSN) Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required) or
  • (MN) Master in Nursing (Required)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing process and practice.
  • In depth knowledge of service or specialty in clinical practice.
  • Uses a wide variety of technical equipment to meet patient needs and prescribed medical therapies (ie. stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers and electronic monitoring devices. In-depth knowledge of service specific equipment or processes.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN), Ohio and/or Multi State Compact License (Required Upon Hire) and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required within 90 Days)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit. Refer to ACLS/PALS Unit Requirements document found on DWP Nursing Portal to determine requirements by unit.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) May be required based on the clinical care standards of the unit. Refer to ACLS/PALS Unit Requirements document found on DWP Nursing Portal to determine requirements by unit.
