GrowSquares designs outdoor gardens that are fun, productive and easy to use. Our system leverages an app that captures remote microclimate data to ensure our users not only grow the best herbs, fruits, and vegetables for their space but are able to do so using the exact mixture of nutrients, minerals, and bacteria their plants need to thrive. We form our proprietary mixture (seeds included) into modular square-foot blocks, wrapping them in a nutrient-rich organic casing that continues to feed a users' plants as it biodegrades. Once a user's garden has been delivered, the app is able to provide tailored watering, servicing and harvesting recommendations as well as help users identify and address any problems their plants might be experiencing.

Job Description

You are a web designer that thinks as deeply about user experience and the narrative of a story as you do visual elements. You're not scared to be objective about your own work and start from the drawing board when it doesn't meet your high standards. Plus, you have the drive to take charge of several design processes of a small but growing startup.

You're interested in creating engaging and informative stories within a web framework and understand its criticality within the user journey.  Ideally, an interest in the outdoors and gardening is great, but it's okay if you're not a green thumb.

What you will be doing:

GrowSquares is searching for a web designer who will take the lead in developing key assets for its website and various and extending the GrowSquares brand to additional web-based platforms. You will be responsible for ensuring the visual quality, narrative and user experience of our website both adheres to and expands our existing brand strategy.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years within Bachelor degree in a design-related field, though master's preferred
  • At least two year's experience in either UI/UX, product or visual design, with an emphasis on web-based products
  • An understanding of user research methods, preferably with experience in interviewing users and synthesizing results
  • Experience with creating, maintaining and updating branding style guides and component libraries.
  • Extensive knowledge of design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe Suite, Framer, or others

Additional responsibilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, familiar with tools like Slack
  • Estimate, plan, and execute working with varying levels of functional specifications and requirements
  • Provide internal team support: specifications and scoping, and coordination to roadmap milestones, LAUNCH!
  • Support partner and community members: training, onboarding
