About the Role:

Mare Island Brewing Co. is seeking enthusiastic, hospitality-driven team members to join our Front of House team. Our mission is to create a welcoming, energetic environment where guests can enjoy great beer, food, and company. Front of House team members are key ambassadors of the Mare Island Brewing Co. brand.

This is a hybrid role with shifts alternating between Server and Shift Lead based on need. As a Server, you will interact directly with guests, guide them through our food and beverage offerings, assist in taking and fulfilling food and beverage orders, and help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting taproom environment. As a Shift Lead you will fulfill the above in addition to assisting in delegation and completion of opening, closing, and daily sidework tasks, be point of contact for managerial staff as needed, assist with customer complaints and escalate as needed, and fulfill cash handling and end of day reporting duties. We're looking for individuals who enjoy working with people, take pride in their work, and thrive in a fast- paced hospitality setting.

Server Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet guests warmly and create a welcoming, positive atmosphere in the taproom.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately using the POS system, Toast.
  • Pour and serve beer, wine, and other beverages according to company standards.
  • Present food and drinks to guests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide knowledgeable recommendations about beer, wine, and menu items.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar, dining areas, service stations, and beer garden.
  • Bus and reset tables and bar-top to maintain a clean and inviting space for guests.
  • Monitor guest needs and provide attentive, proactive service throughout their visit.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties including stocking, cleaning, and preparation for service.
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and as needed cleaning and side work task lists.
  • Replace and tap in kegs as needed using proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Follow all responsible alcohol service guidelines and company policies.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, peer staff, shift leads, and managers to ensure smooth service.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment for both guests and team members.
  • Support additional tasks as needed to ensure the overall success of the taproom.
  • Work special and/or private events as they are scheduled. This may include setting up, breaking down, and/or moving round banquet tables, chairs, beer benches, picnic benches, food buffets, tents, kegs and jockey boxes, etc. as needed.

Shift Lead Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor daily bar or event operations during Shift Lead assigned shifts.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality guest service and resolve customer concerns promptly.
  • Support and direct bartenders to maintain tasks, workflow, and efficiency.
  • Oversee opening, closing duties, including cash-counting.
  • Monitor inventory levels, restock as needed, and communicate shortages to management. Maintain responsible alcohol service, safety, and company policies.
  • Assist in training new bar staff and maintaining team morale.
  • Act as point of contact for Management needs, tasks, etc.
  • Ensure adequate communication or need escalation via proper channels/individuals: texts, calls, shift reports, etc.

  • Basic knowledge of beer and wine required; craft beer knowledge is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must possess or obtain within 60 days a California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certification.
  • Must possess or obtain within 30 days a California Food Handler Card.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time and lift up to 30lbs. when needed. Other physical requirements include bending, twisting, lifting, carrying, etc.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as these are key service times for our taproom. Minimum three (3) days a week with one being a weekend availability.
  • Reliable transportation, consistent attendance, and a commitment to punctuality and preparedness for all scheduled shifts.
