It's important to check local labor laws and restaurant policies regarding underage employment.

What are the responsibilities of a server at 16?

A server at 16 is responsible for taking customer orders, delivering food and drinks to tables, and ensuring guests have a positive dining experience. Good communication skills, attention to detail, and a friendly attitude are important for success in this role.

What are the typical scheduling considerations and expectations for a 16-year-old server?

As a 16-year-old server, your work schedule is often tailored around school hours and local labor laws, which may limit the number of hours you can work on school nights and weekends. Employers usually offer part-time shifts, often during evenings or weekends, to accommodate your school commitments. It's important to communicate your availability clearly during the application process. Being proactive and reliable with your schedule can help you build trust with supervisors and may lead to more opportunities or responsibilities over time.

Can a 16 year old be a server?

At most restaurants, including casual dining establishments like Cracker Barrel, the minimum age to work as a server is typically 16, depending on state or local labor laws. Employers may require completion of a food safety certification and adherence to scheduling restrictions for minors. It is advisable to check specific state regulations and the company's policies for age requirements and work permits.
