Brockwell’s Septic and Service, Inc., a well-established and leading septic contractor in the Richmond region is expanding and is now accepting applications for service technicians. We are looking for self-starters to help grow our business. If you like working with people, have great customer service skills and a positive attitude, then this job is for you. Military and newly licensed CDL School Students welcome to apply. We are a full-service Septic Company providing septic tank and grease trap cleanings, light repairs, inspections, and general waste water hauling for Residential, Commercial and Municipal customers.

Position Summary

The basic function of a service technician is to provide general septic tank and grease trap cleaning services and handle service calls to customers at their homes and businesses. Utilizes customer service training to educate and assist customers in the proper maintenance required for their septic systems.

The service technician must be goal oriented, self-starting, and energetic. Must be confident in his/her abilities and believe in him/herself and the company. This position requires the individual to be aware of and understand the company mission statement and be able to give a general outline if asked by customers or supervisor. The service technician’s work must reflect the mission statement. Service technicians are directly responsible for the assistant service technician working with them.

Requirements:

Position Qualifications

  • Have and maintain a valid CDL-B (or A) driver’s license
  • Have or obtain tanker endorsement prior to starting work
  • Two years of commercial truck driving with tanker endorsement experience is preferred
  • Will consider recent CDL graduates from local schools
  • Have clean driving record
  • Have current medical card by licensed physician
  • A DPOR On-Site Operator’s License must be obtained prior to becoming a lead technician
  • Be willing to pursue and participate in continuing education to maintain DPOR License
  • Be able to pass drug screening
  • Be able to lift up to 80 pounds
  • Good problem-solving skills – each job is different with unique changes and rewards
  • Be accountable to Supervisor for all aspects of your job
  • Be able to work closely with other members of the staff
  • Be able to work with inspectors, suppliers, and co-worker technicians to get the job done correctly and in the best interest of our customers while abiding by all regulations
  • Be able to read and write English well enough to read and prepare invoices, time sheets and proposals
  • Be able to apply sound business judgements to all decisions
  • Be able to read maps or mapping systems proficiently
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Military Veterans encouraged to apply
  • Septic tank cleaning experience is preferred but not required
  • Availability to work nights and/or weekends when needed
  • Safety
    • Safe driving practices are required
    • Personal safety must be respected when digging, lifting, etc.

Physical Demands

This position has physical demands that regularly requires sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and digging for prolonged periods of time. The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands, feet, and fingers to handle or feel objects and use tools and equipment. Must have command of all five senses sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. Must hear and speak well enough to conduct business over the telephone. Must be able to read and write English well enough to read and prepare invoices, time sheets and proposals. Must be capable of applying sound business judgement to all decisions.

Working Conditions

This position will require working indoors and outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very cold with rain to very hot and humid. This could include crawl spaces and confined locations. This position requires proficient use of hand tools including shovels, rakes, and probes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Typical workweek is an eight (8) hour workday five (5) days per week with overtime pay after 40 hours, as well as early and/or late weekday meetings with customers and staff personnel as needed. A paid, rotating week of “on-call” duty is required for evenings and weekends. Added pay is guaranteed to technicians for the weeks on-call even when not called in for work. Guaranteed minimum 4 hours of overtime pay if called in for emergency service while “on-call” regardless of amount of time worked.
