The Effector RF Design Team at Raytheon is seeking a talented Principal Engineer to join our team in Tucson, AZ.

The candidate will be responsible for leading and shaping the design and implementation of antenna, radome, and/or radar cross section (RCS) ranges and/or chambers within the company. The selected candidate will also be expected to lead teams, provide technical oversight, delegate tasks, and work with the Engineering organization to establish technology roadmaps, enable modernization, and contribute to general innovation. In addition, the candidate will work with government personnel and programs, to define and refine requirements to validate range and chamber compliance. The candidate will be responsible for providing guidance, coaching, mentoring, and training to other employees across the business within the candidate’s areas of expertise.

This position is an onsite role, located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

  • Develop antenna, radome, advanced sensor systems, and/or RCS ranges/chambers
  • Work with interdisciplinary engineering teams including thermal, structural, mechanical, systems, etc. to define, analyze, simulate, implement, and evaluate requirements for ranges and / or chambers, including relevant test equipment
  • Work with chamber/range equipment and service suppliers
  • Oversee implementation of new ranges/chambers

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience to include any combination of the following:
    • Experience with testing of antennas or radomes in a chamber or test range
    • Experience with operation of an antenna, radome, and / or RCS chamber/range
    • Experience with antenna and / or sensor measurement theory and range operation
  • Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access after start. 

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Master of Science (MS) or PhD in electrical engineering
  • Significant experience simulating and/or estimating the effects of propagation, reflections, and scattering on an antenna under test (AUT) in an anechoic chamber
  • Measurement of hardware for RCS
  • Significant experience specifying, building, and validating antenna, radome, and/or RCS ranges/chambers
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB and/or other high level scientific programming languages
  • Proficiency with high performance computing (HPC) environments and schedulers such as SLURM
  • Proficiency with modeling & simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, FEKO, SENTRi and GRASP
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities from multiple sources
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a team environment with positive interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to put forth and drive technical execution plans
  • Knowledgeable of management processes, such as Earned Value
  • Experience presenting in technical reviews
  • Understanding of near-field-to-far-field processing algorithms
  • Experience designing and testing datalink, flight termination, telemetry, and/or GPS antenna systems
  • Experience being a Cost Account Manager or Integrated Product Team Lead

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
