Sensor Algorithm Engineer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sensor algorithm engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sensor Algorithm Engineer, you need a strong background in signal processing, sensor physics, and applied mathematics, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or C++, tools like MATLAB, and experience with sensor data fusion systems are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills help you collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and interpret complex data. These skills are essential to develop robust algorithms that ensure accurate sensor performance and drive innovation in fields like automotive, robotics, and consumer electronics.

What does a sensor algorithm engineer do?

A Sensor Algorithm Engineer designs, develops, and tests algorithms that process data from various sensors, such as cameras, accelerometers, gyroscopes, or environmental sensors. Their work involves creating mathematical models and software to interpret sensor data for applications like robotics, autonomous vehicles, mobile devices, or IoT systems. They collaborate with hardware engineers and software developers to ensure accurate and reliable sensor performance. The role often requires expertise in signal processing, machine learning, and embedded systems.

What is the difference between Sensor Algorithm Engineer vs Signal Processing Engineer?

AspectSensor Algorithm EngineerSignal Processing Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; knowledge of sensor systemsBachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields; expertise in signal processing techniques
Work EnvironmentDevelops algorithms for sensors in automotive, consumer electronics, or industrial applicationsDesigns and implements signal processing algorithms across various industries including communications and audio
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by companies developing sensor-based systems like IoT devices, autonomous vehicles, and roboticsCommon in telecommunications, audio engineering, and image processing sectors

While both roles involve algorithm development and require similar educational backgrounds, Sensor Algorithm Engineers focus on creating algorithms specifically for sensor data interpretation, whereas Signal Processing Engineers work on processing signals from various sources, including sensors, for broader applications.

How does a sensor algorithm engineer typically collaborate with hardware and software teams during product development?

Sensor Algorithm Engineers often serve as a bridge between hardware engineers and software developers. They work closely with hardware teams to understand sensor specifications and limitations while collaborating with software teams to integrate algorithms into embedded systems or applications. Regular cross-disciplinary meetings and iterative testing are common, ensuring that sensor data is accurately interpreted and that the algorithms perform reliably under real-world conditions. This collaborative environment helps drive innovation and ensures that final products meet both technical and user requirements.

CIP and COP Integrator
The Opportunity:
The United States Army requires advanced integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities into its Common Intelligence Picture (CIP) and Common Operational Picture (COP) to enhance situational awareness, threat detection, and decision-making capabilities. Maven Smart System (MSS) serves as the client's AI-ready interface for the Common Operational Picture (COP), focusing on data movement, while the Army Intelligence Data Platform (AIDP) acts as the Army's Program of Record dedicated to intelligence data enrichment. Seamless integration between these two systems is critical to achieving the client's unified COP and Common Intelligence Picture (CIP) objectives.
In this role, you'll seamlessly integrate data feeds, AI/ML detections, and analytics into the existing CIP and COP platforms utilized by the client. By automating the extraction of objects of interest from full-motion video (FMV), electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) imagery, and other intelligence sensors or data feeds, you will help reduce the cognitive load on intelligence analysts and significantly enhance the decision advantage of the client's leadership.
You will provide comprehensive data science, and integration support services. The scope encompasses the end-to-end integration of AIDP and MSS capabilities, including the ingestion of diverse intelligence feeds, the deployment of computer vision and predictive analytics models, the configuration of the CIP and COP dashboards on and across multiple classified network domains.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • Experience with the deployment and maintenance of new or existing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and automated data feeds into the client's CIP/COP, including pipelines that ingest raw sensor data, such as FMV, GEOINT, or SIGINT, from the client's collection assets or data sources, process the data through AI/ML algorithms, and output the structured intelligence data into the CIP/COP environment in near real-time
  • Experience on how to integrate, configure, and optimize data feeds, and associated applications and software containers on the designated classified networks
  • Knowledge of Army Intelligence Data Platform (AIDP), Maven Smart System (MSS), and Mission Command Software and Systems used by the client or its mission partners
  • Knowledge of overlays are accurately georeferenced and correctly displayed on the CIP/COP interfaces
  • Ability to understand and maintain the current client CIP and COP integrations
  • Ability to make modifications and updates to the client's CIP and COP configurations as directed by Leadership
  • Ability to conduct rigorous integration testing prior to Executive-level events and All exercises to validate data feeds and visualizations
  • Ability to stay in continuously tune and optimize the machine learning models based on user feedback and operational data specific to the client's Area of Responsibility (AOR) to minimize false positives and false negatives
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience in developing comprehensive user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical documentation
  • Ability to provide initial classroom training and ongoing over-the-shoulder support to personnel to ensure high user adoption and proficiency

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
