Pratt & Whitney is looking for a Senior Structures Engineer to support our Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) Structures Team. Join a team responsible for ensuring the durability and structural integrity of next-generation military propulsion systems. You'll solve complex engineering challenges while working alongside multidisciplinary experts throughout the engine development lifecycle, and present analysis results to Pratt & Whitney leadership and customer representatives. In this role, you will perform structural analysis on military engine programs to demonstrate durability and structural integrity of MSEN components. Hardware to be analyzed includes bearing compartments, gearboxes, lube pumps, oil tanks, tubes, mount brackets, and ducts.
What You Will Do:
  • Perform structural analysis in support of all phases of product life cycle including preliminary design, detailed design, development testing and validation, certification, delivery support, and post engine production & service support.
  • Evaluate MSEN component health during engine validation testing (engine and rig), perform test data reduction and analysis, and confirm test objectives are met.
  • Support field investigations. Use finite element analysis and classical methods to evaluate strength, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.
  • Serve as the Structures representative on multidisciplinary teams, providing design solutions that balance durability, performance, cost, and weight.
  • Collaborate to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes and methods.
  • Document analysis results and present conclusions to PW management and external customers.

  • How analytical models are validated using engine and rig test data.
  • End-to-end engine development from preliminary design through certification and production support.
  • How multidisciplinary engineering teams solve complex technical challenges.
  • Best practices in durability, fatigue, vibration, and damage tolerance assessment.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or in a related field with 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience: structural analysis.

Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience with aerospace propulsion or turbofan engines.
  • Proficiency using ANSYS Workbench, ANSYS Classic, and finite element methods.
  • Experience performing hand calculations to validate FEA.
  • Lean, CORE, or Six Sigma training.
  • Experience presenting technical analyses to engineering leadership or customers, and working on multidisciplinary engineering teams.

What We Offer:
  • Eligible for Relocation.
