Position Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Admissions Officer, the incumbent is responsible for making a fixed number of admission decisions per week on assigned undergraduate and graduate applications, certificates, and diploma programs by determining eligibility of applicants and considering multiple sources of information based on predetermined guidelines and procedures. Additionally, directs queries pertaining to scholarships and student aid.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist the admissions team during a high-pressure period with the review of student applications for various faculties and schools, determining the eligibility of undergraduate applicants and working with a variety of admit types and programs. Evaluate student files for admission to McGill, considering multiple sources of information, based on established guidelines and procedures and under time constraints.

  • Implement moderately complex administrative procedures or systems in support of the faculty, department, or unit's operations, ensuring activities meet or exceed established quality standards.

  • Review and make decisions on straightforward admission files; consult with senior staff on complex applications and follow up on missing documentation.

  • Participate in the grade verification process, finalize admission files, and assign transfer credits.

  • Apply information received and select appropriate procedures for conducting admissions, government reporting, recruitment, scholarships, and student record activities.

  • Administer activities related to academic student records and liaise with faculties and units to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Establish and foster effective working relationships by identifying needs and providing support in the delivery of services. Assess and resolve administrative issues, informing supervisors and formulating recommendations as necessary.

  • Utilize various systems, including Slate, Banner, and Minerva, to manage and process applications and student records.

  • Attend meetings to discuss admissions processes and policies.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Demonstrates high degree of integrity and work ethics in decision-making. Interprets and judges validity of academic records based on pre-determined criteria. Organized and manages time effectively and efficiently. Works well under pressure by providing outstanding admission service to current and prospective students to meet enrolment targets. Resourceful in remaining current on changes in educational systems and credentials. Maintains the highest level of discretion, compassion, and professionalism. Uses Slate, Banner, Minerva, and complete Microsoft Office Tools effectively. Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level #3 on a scale of 0-4
