Role Description
Form Energy is hiring a Senior Staff Test Engineer to lead our system level and interface level verification testing efforts of our product.This role reports into our Test Engineering department. As part of our Test Engineering Team, you will be involved in mentoring test and analysis engineers, developing test strategies and prioritizing tests, in partnership with design teams. What you'll do:
  • Technical Leadership & Design Influence: Lead the design, prototyping, and testing of various subsystem-to-subsystem interfaces and how they integrate into our battery products, ensuring it meets and exceeds critical performance and strategic requirements. You will oversee daily test execution and high-fidelity data processing to ensure critical program milestones are met while directly influencing design teams to improve product robustness against harsh environmental disturbances. Serve as a technical pillar within the organization, mentoring engineers across levels, elevating our mechanical engineering best practices, and championing safety, especially in the development of new laboratory processes.
  • Risk-Based Strategy & Failure Analysis: Architect comprehensive test profiles and strategies to systematically "burn down" technical risks across complex systems. You will be a key driver of the DFMEA process, providing expert inputs on failure modes to ensure potential vulnerabilities are identified and mitigated early in the design cycle.
  • Cross-Functional Design Influence: Act as the critical link between the Test and Design teams. You will influence early-stage hardware concepts and translate test failures into actionable design recommendations to improve product robustness.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive team efficiency by developing internal tools and standardizing reporting and data analysis workflows to scale our output.
  • Multi-Site Test Execution Coordination: Drive test execution schedules by partnering cross-functionally between Form Energy test sites, deployment sites, and offices, as well as coordinate test execution at external laboratories depending on operational needs and core competencies.

What you'll bring:
  • Subject Matter Expertise: 10+ years of deep technical experience in Test Engineering and data analysis, with a proven track record of leading complex hardware verification programs.
  • Data-Driven Strategy: Extensive experience architecting test strategies, processing high-bandwidth vibration data, and translating raw results into actionable engineering insights that directly impact product reliability.
  • Design Partnership: A demonstrated ability to serve as a strategic partner to Design Engineering, bridging the gap between theoretical design and physical validation to influence early-stage hardware concepts.
  • Analytical Rigor: Proficiency in closing the loop between test and analysis, ensuring that empirical data is used to increase the fidelity of static and dynamic models. Sense of urgency and self-driven to hit difficult schedule targets.
  • External Test Lab Partnership: Proficiency in understanding in-house and external lab capabilities, and direct/coordinate test execution at external labs per business needs.
