Job description

Overview
Kimley-Horn's Dallas, Texas (TX) office is seeking a Substation P&C Engineer with 4+ years of relevant experience to join our diverse and fast-paced organization! This is not a remote position.
This is a strategic opportunity for a highly experienced engineer and project manager to lead complex utility-scale substation projects and help drive growth in the P&C space.
Responsibilities
To act in a senior technical capacity in producing engineering related project deliverables relating to power system Protection & Control (P&C), within the power delivery Practice. This includes (but not limited to):
  • Undertake senior and lead technical roles on project specific multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Lead successful output of P&C engineering deliverables in the business, working with the P&C group to determine suitable P&C engineering personnel from across our offices, as required
  • Lead in a technical capacity on P&C design project deliverables, ranging from 4kV up to 500kV (with a particular emphasis on 115kV voltages and above), including undertaking the role of Lead Project Engineer on project teams, as required and when appropriate
  • Produce detailed substation P&C design packages, compliant to required client and national technical standards. Core design responsibilities include:One-line diagrams
    • Three-line diagrams
    • Potential and current schematics
    • Control and Indication schematics
    • Communication Interconnections
    • Wiring Diagrams
    • Equipment Sizing and Specifications
    • I/O mapping
    • Construction Documentation / Outage Sequencing
    • Procurement and Construction Support
  • Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes, procedures, standards, and technical guidance, as required, to continually improve the engineering capability within the P&C practice
  • Plan and lead client meetings (or meeting sections) relating to P&C, as required
  • Support the preparation of project proposals and tender presentations
  • Perform Quality Control reviews on substation protection packages
  • Provide support for continued professional development of less experienced engineers in team, including technical guidance, and recommending training needs to the P&C group

Qualifications
  • 4+ years of protection & control engineering design
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (advanced degrees are a plus)
  • PE or the ability to obtain within 6 months required
  • Proficient with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
    • I/O mapping
    • Constrution documentation/outage sequencing
  • ETAP experience is a plus
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
