Fire Protection Engineer, Senior

Job Number: R0241498

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and programmatic fire protection, life safety, and occupational safety and health support to Federal clients.
  • Deliver engineering services to architects, developers, owners, and government clients.
  • Review and analyze proposed fire protection and life safety equipment and design changes to determine code compliance.
  • Serve as subject‑matter expert and representative of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in development of Statements of Work (SOWs) and design and construction proposals.
  • Develop performance‑based design analyses utilizing fire protection engineering principles, code analyses, advice from AHJ, and other available resources.
  • Provide engineering reviews of shop drawings, conduct construction oversight and inspection, field surveys, and systems acceptance testing for life safety systems.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide progress oversight, coordinate prioritization of work related to construction, and recommend resolutions for issues encountered by construction trades.
  • Evaluate existing building and life safety system conditions through code compliance, life safety, and fire hazards analysis surveys.
  • Develop technical reports detailing fire prevention and protection issues, compliance findings, required code revisions, remedial work, and gaps in facility procedures and practices.
  • Review deliverables of junior engineers and provide feedback, mentoring, and training.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in fire protection engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience in healthcare settings.
  • Experience applying fire protection and life safety requirements to design reviews of facilities, systems, and equipment.
  • Experience conducting on‑site audits and assessments for compliance and generating associated reports.
  • Experience with FP/LS codes for healthcare facilities, including NFPA 99, The Joint Commission, UFC 3‑600‑01, and UFC 3‑601‑02.
  • Experience with Federal government agencies such as EPA, VHA, DoD, and FAA.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of major NFPA and FP/LS codes and standards (NFPA 101, 13, 25, 70, 72, 75, 90A).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination.
  • Master’s degree.
Nice If You Have
  • Experience with OSH regulatory and consensus standards such as 29 CFR 1910, 1926, 1960, NFPA 70, 70E, and 101, and enterprise‑level OSH policies.
  • Experience with fire suppression and detection systems design.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) certification.
