Job description

**MUST HOLD USCG MERCHANT MARINER CREDENTION (MMC) ENDORSEMENT AS QMED TO APPLY!**

Job Summary:

A QMED is a more experienced unlicensed position in the engine department responsible for assisting with maintenance and operation of the main propulsion plant, auxiliary machinery, deck/cargo equipment, and bunkering/fueling in a safe, efficient manner.

Primary Responsibilities:

The QMED is generally responsible for acting under the direction of the First Assistant Engineer or Watch Officer on duty, typically including:

  • Assisting the Engineering Department in the maintenance and operations of the main engines and auxiliary systems / machinery aboard ship
  • Making rounds of engineering spaces as directed
  • Monitoring/Recording gauges and equipment as assigned
  • Responding in accordance with the duties listed on the Station Bill
  • Able to understand all commands, both written and verbal, in English

Credential, License / Endorsement, and Certificate Requirements:

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
    • U.S. Coast Guard Endorsement as Qualified Member of the Engine Department (QMED)
  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard Medical Certificate
  • Valid U.S. DOT Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Legally eligible to be employed in the United States (Proof of identity and eligibility will be required upon employment
