Role: Senior Network Engineer Consultant Purpose

Assess, document, stabilize, and modernize an enterprise network following the departure of key network personnel. Evaluate the current environment, identify operational and security risks, produce comprehensive documentation, develop a practical roadmap, and provide hands‑on engineering support as required.

Role summary
  • Assess the enterprise network infrastructure and operational readiness.
  • Review routing, switching, WAN, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews and evaluate existing documentation.
  • Identify operational, resiliency, and cybersecurity risks.
  • Create network diagrams, inventories, standards, and operational runbooks.
  • Develop executive‑ready findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare a 12–24 month network modernization roadmap.
  • Implement approved improvements and mentor staff.
  • Coordinate with vendors and provide weekly status reports.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of senior enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Strong routing, switching, WAN, wireless, firewall, and VPN expertise.
  • Experience documenting enterprise environments and creating network diagrams.
  • Ability to assess poorly documented environments independently.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Municipal or public‑sector IT experience.
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Juniper, or Meraki.
  • Knowledge of Zero Trust and network segmentation.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring platforms and structured change management.
